Not sure what category this would fall under, so posting here because there are actually intelligent people that come to this section, so...
Any scientific studies talking about whether or not CNS depressants (******, *****, etc.) taken on a regular basis will inhibit/slow down strength gains?

Hell yes they do, this is from personal experience. ***** throws me off anywhere from 3 days to over a week depending on the amount I take. This is why I don't take it anymore, I still have anxiety problems(some so bad I feel like I'm going to puke, sometimes do) but I just fight my way through it, and I always end up fine.
If your really into lifting I would stay away from any of that stuff, alcohol doesn't effect me as bad but still throws me off for a couple days if i drink a lot, I don't drink anymore either.
Natural things you can do to help anxiety are, sex/masturbation, and or a really brutal workoutJournal: https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=139898123&page=240

Well, the drugs don't necessarily affect everyone in that way, so it's better to take a small dose all the time and not have to deal with anxiety symptoms, then to not take it and then have a huge attack which takes weeks to recover from.
But I'm still wondering if there are any scientific studies that have been done about this.

Yes, everyone is different and everyone will respond differently to drugs . But I guarantee you that if anyone is put on ***** or any other benzo, it will effect how they perform in the gym negatively, weather it be .25mg or 10mg a day. Generally someone will "acclimate" to a consistent dose of ***** every day after a period of time. I myself was up to 12mg a day for around 6 months at one point, yes I know that's a lot. I did get used to it and was able to work out still, but I was not able to push it as hard as I normally could. Now if I take just one mg of that stuff it makes me a zombie, throws me off for a couple days and ruins my workouts, that's why I stay away from it now.
I see benzo's as a temporary solution, and I don't think anyone should be on them for long periods of time, the negatives definitely out weight the positives. One example is they are extremely addictive and you must be very careful when your taking it everyday, if you miss a day or two you will start to experience bad withdrawal symptoms and can get seizures. If you really have this bad of anxiety you should go see a psychiatrist and get on some sort of mood stabilizer/anti depressant, and save the benzo's for an "emergency". Then when the mood stabilizer or whatever is prescribed starts working well, ditch the benzo's. I don't recommend meds unless its truly a last resort. I am on a mood stabilizer right now(very low dose) and feel much better compared to when I was taking ***** everyday. I have gotten used to it so I can push it hard in the gym as well.
Btw I have not seen any scientific studies on this, but I am interested and if you find any pm me plz.Journal: https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=139898123&page=240
