    Upper Trap/Neck Pain

The right side of my neck is very sore beyond normal muscle soreness. The pain shoots down my upper trap as well. I believe hurt it from Cleaning too much weight. I will try to describe where and how it hurts:

I feel it when I turn my head to the left and the right. Touching my ear to my shoulder is brutal. Tilting my head forward is not as bad but if I am looking at the floor it hurts a lot to pull my head back up. This happened last monday. I took 2 days off. By Thursday it felt like normal muscle soreness, so I figured it was just taking a long time to recover and proceeded to do lower body. I felt minor pain. Today I did upper body and it came back immediately. I did bench press, rows, pullups, and military press before i couldn't take it anymore. I realize I should have stopped after bench press. I feel like i did on Monday again.

    3 questions:
Why does this keep happening? Why does my neck hurt from doing unrelated lifts? How should I treat it so that it heals quicker? I have a heating pad.

Go to a chiropractor or physical therapist.

It's likley that one of your vertebra is out of alignment either rotated or side bent or both. Thus, it doesn't move correctly, and you can't move your head much without causing pain.

For right now massage it as much as possible to loosen up the muscles, and use heat. Take fish oil for anti-inflammatory

If it doesn't aggravate it and helps.

    Otherwise, no.
