    dead lift starting position

i have long ass legs and pretty short arms (3 inches less than my height) and when I do dead lifts, the bar is really low on my shin. Most of the dead lift form things i've read said the bar should be starting about mid-shin, but when i do them, the bar starts at probably 1-2 inches above my laces (really low). Anyways, it feels really awkward and the form doesn't look right when I do them, but when I do dead lifts starting bout 2-4 inches elevated above the floor, the bar starts mid-shin.

should i elevate the bar or keep it on the ground?

    thanks for the help

Leave the bar on the floor, if you're going to Deadlift. If you raise the bar off the floor, it becomes a different exercise. Set up, and perform the lift just like this:

Agree with Ironwill, however, it is important to ensure the bar is the correct height off the ground..I was pulling my deadlifts for 3 months in a 3 inch defecit because my plates werent as big as regulation sized ones..now im to the proper height and its way better!

An official plate is 450mm in diameter, therefore the centre of it will be 225mm off the ground. An official bar is 29mm diameter so

floor to bottom of bar = 210.5
floor to centre of bar = 225
floor to top of bar = 239.5

    Hope this helps.

Not sure what your goals are, but it sounds like you might be built to deadlift sumo style.
