i went to school for ME. now im in sales for an electrical controls device company. sweet money and hours arent bad. id say 40 is typical for me. but i also do emails and stuff at night at home. engineering is a GREAT field to be in. go take a look at how many owners/CEO's come from engineering.
Might want to look at Civil Engineer. Work for the gov and have time to misc inbetween projects. Plenty of engineers in my family. Aviation and defense can get spotty as its project driven.
I am a network engineer (oh those "not real" IT engineers lol) and have time to misc. Have to keep up with tech though. There is some real persona busting times that can seperate the boys from the men in IT.
