    inner chest feels weird (hurts) after doing dips

    so yesterday was chest day and i was doing dips and they always feel awkward to me, like some pressure is put on my sternum.

    today i woke up, and when i take a deep breath it hurts. not like a sore pain but a "something might be wrong here" pain.

    I had this problem too. try not leaning forward as much. keep chest [closer] parallel to wall. It will work your tris more/ less pressure on chest.

    yeah, i'm going to avoid doing it at that intensity.. it felt really awkward.

    I've had this pain too - almost feels like my muscle fibres are about to tear off my sternum!

    Used to love dips, now I haven't done any in about 3 months!!!!

    Love doing heavy weighted dips, and yeah I get that pressure in my sternum as well, but it goes away as soon as I finish.. I wouldn't worry about it too much, after a while your dipping strength will increase and it shouldn't be a problem
    Deadlift - 352lb x1
    Squat - 265lb x5
    Bench - 176lb x5

    A heavy set of deadlifts can also cause any nearby women to spontaneously conceive a child.

    Your chest isn't used to it, so it's stretching a bit more than usual. It'll go away within a few days.

    By the way, the difference between tricep dips and chest dips is not really leaning forwards. It's how far out your elbows are when you do your dip. Closer to your sides means more triceps, further out means more chest.

    I thought i was the only one! I had to cut dips out of my chest routine. The pain through the inner portion of my chest was unbearable!

    it doesnt hurt anymore because i push my chest forward and try and keep my shoulders back, the same way you would set up for a bench press

    I had the same problem months ago. Sometimes I felt it and sometimes I didn't.. I discovered that when I hit my sternum for some reason, if I fall down or if someone hit me just kidding or just if I hit my sternum for any reason. Later, when I breath I feel a pain in there, or when I flex my pecs I feel a pain there.

    That was my case, it might be yours as well.
