Is it easy to gain one pound of muscle per month?

I wasn't sure how much muscle I could build in a month. I'm 17 years old and weigh 170 pounds. I lift 6 days a week and take one protein shake after each workout. I also eat around 2500 calories a day. My goal is to gain 10 pounds of muscle while lowering my bf% by October. Is that too much or too little for the period of time?

You could gain UP TO 1 pounds of muscle/week, I'd set your sites a little higher. I'd like to note that to gain muscle, you need to gain weight, I weigh 168 and I eat 3400 calories/day to gain 1 pound/week.

So you reckon you can gain between 52 and 104 pounds of pure, dry rock hard muscle in a year?

You can probably gain 24lb of solid, dry muscle a year. So that's 2lb per month.

You can gain whatever your body feels like doing. Everybody is different, and some people gain better than others. You can't just say "the human body caps out at 2 pounds of muscle every month, it refuses to build anymore". It doesn't work that way.

However remember that's solid, dry muscle. You'd probably look alot more impressive than that sounds with a years training, because you'd tone up those muscles, gain water and other content in the muscles, and would have a slightly higher level of fat on you to maintain the relative BF% to your new-found weight. I was 112lb in September, now I'm 140lb and still lean enough to see a few abs. That's a big gain of weight without becoming a fat-ass.

Yeah, this is true as well. 24lb a year is a very rough guide, but people vary so much it could be more than that, or it could be less.
