    531 and a powerlifting meet.

    I have a meet in April and I am still running 531 for my deadlift and squat. I was wondering if it would be smart to jump up my maxes another 20 or 30 lbs on the calculator so that I would be lifting heavier weights to prepare me for the meet. Right now I have still been hitting sets of 9-11 on my 531 days. I'm still gaining strength obviously but I would like it to correlate better with increasing my one rep max. Any thoughts or ideas?

    My experience with guys trying to jump the weights in 531 is generally that they fail. I wouldn't do it. If you want to work your maxes up, switch to a different program leading up to the meet and get back to 531 after the meet.

    I ran 5/3/1 for 2 months prior to my first meet. Even though I wanted to, I never jumped ahead on the weights. Once my practice meet came, and then a few weeks later my true first meet.... I was alot stronger than I expected to be. In other words, resisting to increase the weights translated well for me peronally in the long run.
    I'm going to lift heavy things until I can lift even heavier things.

    id add in speed work before the meet. 5/3/1 made me very slow.
