Powertec Bench?
Was reading about the powertec utility bench, and it said that the max weight was 500 pounds. Does this mean for a 500 pound male, or overall. For example I'm 200 pounds and say I was to bench 315 pounds(haha one day), with that totaling 515, is that what they mean by max weight limit?

Total weight, not the user weight.

So would you say, just for protective measures, that it would be better to get a bench raited for 1000 pounds??

Not to side-step your question to bb
but here is what I got from their 2010 catalog (assuming this is the same model you are referring too).
SPECIFICATIONS:
- Model # WB-UB10
Bodyweight/Resistance combination = 600 LBS
Note: (Capacities are fully tested to a reasonable load rate)
I see 600 total not 500?

It may be, I believe I was on powertecs website, or maybe fitness factory or something like that. Anyway powertec's website was all ****ed up to begin with. The total weight may have been 600, I saw other benches with 1000 pound. Not that it matters because it would be a long time before I'm hitting those numbers. i probabaly will go with powertecs bench as soon as I order there powerrac, trying to find out if the racks still take forever to be delivered.
Had to edit. Despite me loving this website and there incredible delivery (srs), I may order from a diff website that includes free shipping depending on if those websites have them on hand, or if they also order and deliver from powertec distributor itself.

Nothing has changed with the rack to my knowledge... still February if you want black.

BB.com has free shipping as well.

Free shipping yes, but I have been reading that because ptec ****s around with shipping and contacting the customer that it has been taking almost a month or so to recieve the rack. I do order everything else from bb.com, but this time I will go with another that has them in box ready to ship.

FW my opinion is worth, I would think the higher the rating the better. There are alot of big guys that easily push 300+ that can bench more than 200lbs.

I know that first hand, just received my rack last week after almost a month since ordering it. Good luck with the search of finding one in stock somewhere.

Just ordered the rack from a diff website. They said that they have the new black racks in stock and ready to ship. This almost sounds too good to be true, will let ya know if it works out ok or not. It ships from Pa, I live in Pa so you would think that it would not take long, but who knows these days.

for the amount of time it takes for folks to receive their shipments you'd think Powertec was shipping them out via horse & buggy...

What website did you order from? I'm getting ready to order one myself, but starting to feel gun shy because of the wait.

I've had my powertec bench and rack for around 5years now I think. I weigh around 245 and flat bench about 335 right now for reps. I've had up and down swings over the years but I would say I've been pretty close to or over the 500lbs bench limit for at least a couple years now. The bench is showing some signs of wear however, in the flat position it sags down just slightly and it's also not completely level anymore from side to side.
My bday's in a week and my wife has ordered me a IM superbench so we'll see how it works comparitively, this forum seems to be kind towards both benches.
The big plus for the ptec for me is that the back pad is an inch or two wider than the superbench (I have the old style ptec bench so not sure if this is true with the new tapered pad version), and it's also a few inches lower to the ground if I recall correctly. I'm mostly worried about the IM bench not being wide enough for my back but we'll see soon.
My only big complaint about my ptec bench has been the seat. I like having support from your seat when doing incline work and the seat just doesn't come up enough and it feels more like your ass is just barely being supported when doing incline benches etc. I'm hoping since the seat of the IM superbench is more of a 90 degree seat that I won't have this problem anymore.
Overall I have really had great use out of my ptec bench and I'm still gonna keep it just to have 2 benches. I would consider buying it again if it wasn't for the new tapered back pad.
