The sprints with rest intervals of 90 seconds will be more beneficial for burning fat calories vs carb calories, however this all is relative to your weight lifting and fitness goals.
Plus with the long distance running youll be using your aerobic energy system depending upon your VO2 levels and with sprinting youll be using more your anaerobic energy system.~~~~~~~~~~

sprinting-more likely to allow you to keep more muscle (plus i ready a study about how interval sprinting increases you bodies metabolism for alot longer after training than jogging)
i would go with the sprints, they are more fun and give you a bit more power in other things.Natural Physique Ascossiation South East Britain lightweight champion

If you are running at 100% speed, or close, definitely take at least 90 seconds in between sets. Otherwise your muscle storage will not recharge enough for you to be able to reach you maximum again next time. Or you can jog lightly/moderately for 2-3 minutes. Try both and see how you feel.
