Was just watching wrestling and I was thinking, how does one become a ref for the WWE??
Do they have to goto wrestling school also?? Or is there a referee school?
There are schools that now offer referee training. I'd imagine that back in the day, the jobs went to actual referees from other sports, friends of wrestlers, or possibly old wrestlers themselves.

I was thinking that too. But Earl Hebner was so good at acting. I wonder if that's a requirement for reffing. Cuz technically they have to "go along" with the match.
some schools have ref courses. the one i went to tho just said you train to wrestle and then go from there. that way you know how wrestling works more.
btw any wrestlers who read this, know any schools in the north west of the UK besides Big Time Wrestling?

Incredibly weak, one good hit or maybe even a grazing can keep you down and out for hours
Oblivious to your surroundings
Slowly count to 3 or even 4 sometimes
Not able to hear the sound of a chairshot
Easily Distracted by people ringside
and able to sprint in quickly enough to replace an incapacitated ref
There's Futureshock in Manchester, they have a good rep. Dunno if that's far enough north west for you. What's wrong with Big Time Wrestling though? Isn't Robbie Brookside the trainer there?
Anyway you do have to train up to be a ref, people think they just stand around in the ring but their presence is vital to the match, they do need to be able to bump, they need to be able to react, read a match, everything. It's a really important position.

Hi Tiff, nothing wrong with Bigtime, its a pretty damn good school. I havent been there since finding out I was going to be a dad to save up. Now I have some spare cash I was thinking of restarting. But wanted to weigh my options and see if theres any more american style training. You dont really get to learn how to throw a punch in ASW.

The best school in the country is R&R Wrestling in Northampton
There does seem to be a bit of a lack in the north west, as far as I know. However, while American style wrestling is all well and good, don't be too quick to dismiss technical stuff. It's becoming a lost art these days.

I know what you mean. I love techinical wrestling, but when doing a practise match i find it easier to link moves together if i strike between them for a set up. but i always feel like crap because i dont get to practise striking so they look so out of it.

Keep your hand as a loose fist and practise punching an open door. The door should move maybe an inch or two on impact. If you hit it too hard, you'll hurt your hand, and if you don't hit it hard enough, it won't move. That's how I practised.
