Eye opener... Don't b*tch about money.
Find out where you stand in the world.
It's human nature, but we seem to be worse about it in the U.S.
I am referring to the desire to always have more. Those making $30,000/year say they'd be content if they could just make $50,000/year. BUT, those who make $50,000 aren't happy and say they need $75,000 to be happy. It continues from there. Multi-millionaires and billionaires even feel they need just a little more to be where they want. It's neverending.
Put your household income in here; and I challenge you to not be humbled. Even those making minimum wage... scratch that, even high school girls working as part time babysitters in the U.S., are rich when it comes down to it.

With that attitude there will be no entrepeneurship, I agree though the more you make the more you spend. Money is never enough.

Ya but it's all relative. $30K in NYC vs. $30K in zimbabwe is a HUGE difference.

If we all felt we were equal and thought that it should be that way, our civilization would fall. Just because we (as a whole) have it 'good' here in the states doesn't mean we should feel bad about how others live in other countries.
It isn't wrong to make 30K and want to make 50K and then make the next promotion and so on. If a millionaire wants to grow his empire to become a billionaire, so be it. I would much rather there be a huge discrepancy with rich to poor than having communism here.

Completely agree, we have it better b.c we want it and strive for it. We separate ourselves from countries like Haiti because we succeed and I will never feel bad about bettering myself or my life b/c another country fails to do the same. I feel the same about most homeless people in the U.S. as well.

for better or for worse, human's capitalistic nature will probably never end. I for one am glad we live in a society that offers upwards mobility in many ways. And I wouldn't be typing this right now if it weren't for my drive to better myself.

Wow...strong ignorance.
I guess it's ok to take advantage of low cost third world labor pools where equal rights, child labor and other employee protection laws do not exist, eh? As long as you get your Air Jordans, big screen HD TV or other consumer good at a low price you shouldn't care, right?
And absolutely every child born in third world countries has the same opportunities and rights as a child born in a more developed country, right? They are just lazy slackers and deserve the subhuman conditions many of them live in. Sure, that's it.

I guess you can tell yourself anything to assuage your conscience about how disadvantaged most of the world is. The rich abuse the poor in this world. Stop pretending every human on the planet is truly equal.

First off, Im glad we are helping out and doing our part for Haiti dont get me wrong. It was a terrible disaster and everyone should do their part. I understand I was lucky to be born in the US, etc.
But my question to you is this. How long do we have to support these 3rd world countries? How many decades do they need to better their country? i never said they were lazy, but what they are doing is obviously not working. How long do we have to feel bad that we make $50k/year and buy nice things?
Are my grand children going to have to support countries that still build mud houses in 2100?The US started as nothing with nothing, but look where we are now.
Im being 100% serious here.
Maybe Im insensitive, young and ignorant but I tend to feel this way about it.

No, you are completely right in my opinion. Many people cannot seperate emotion from politics and economics, and it causes lots of the problems that we have today.

The problem with countries that are disadvantaged is not with the people, but with the leadership, which is almost always corrupt (or at least inept).
I'm not saying you have to become a great humanitarian. Just aware yourself of the REAL situation in world affairs - not just what the US media force feeds you.
It isn't about "supporting" these countries, it's about understanding the bigger picture.
In the economic world, there is a lot of fear surrounding what happens to the world economy when former third world countries like China and India get more advanced and desire for themselves all the things that we Americans take for granted. Cell phones, private dwellings, automobiles, etc.
Not only does cheap labor start to disappear (making everything insanely more expensive) but it would also put a huge strain on the planet's available resources (further driving up prices).
There's only really room for a few countries at the top - history teaches you this. The US is enjoying it's time there, but it too will eventually fall. Every other world power in history has likewise risen and fallen.

ITT thread I learned that bb.com reputational points do not equal actual intelligence.
I tried to stay out of this thread due to the obvious flaws in OP's link, but when ignorant people start trying to call others ignorant, I must step in.
Like the "500,000 dead" thread here, I could write volumes on this topic. Unfortunately for some, it would only discuss facts and emotions would not control thoughts/actions.
Here are a few links Iceman:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austrian_School
An economic system that views everything from a factual basis only, debunks the "cost of labor" theory, and shows how government involvement cripples economies.
I doubt you will actually educate yourself, but I will make a few points:
Donating money to countries in times such as these generally strengthens the regime only, be they good or bad. The people receive little if any of the money.
Donating money in a time like this generally cripples economic development in the country, and they end up worse than they were prior to the disaster.
Please, educate yourself before you call others ignorant.
BTW-people from third world countries would not build Plasma TV's and make Air Jordan's for the price they do if they had better job opportunities. The truth is those jobs raise the standard of living in the areas they operate. This is an obvious economic principle and only someone completely ignorant would not understand that.

I'm not saying we should subsidize or bail them out. Read my second post ITT. My point is that we should be aware of the bigger picture and don't look down on third world countries as dirtbags and unmotivated ingrates who leech subsidies. A more global view realizes that many of those individuals exist in a framework that is designed solely to take advantage of them.
It's a complex social issue. Traditional US education and environment I'll equips todays younger generation to fully grasp the world economy.
Basically it's a big pyramid scheme. And like any pyramid scheme, the folks at the bottom are taken advantage of. Also, there's less and less room at the top. Not everyone inthe world can achieve great things solely on the merits of effort.

yes, I'm dumb. Lol.
Now that we have that out of our system....I never said I agree with throwing money at a problem. Maybe you misunderstood or didn't fully read my posts. It's about seeing the bigger picture (pyramid scheme).
And I will read your links as I am not closed minded at all and enjoy reading different perspectives. You can learn from almost anyone or anything

what the....Strong mod edits in here.
I just remembered why joakman doesn't like me. Back in the spring of 2009 we had a sports debate about baseball teams. I'm a Yankees fan, he likes the Red Sox. Something about how the Yankees sucked and would fail again this year in their quest for greatness. Yeah, I can see why he'd be mad. Other than that I don't think i've even interacted with him since then.
Whatever I guess.
For the record I don't have any beef with him. I just didn't agree with his viewpoint.

I don't care anymore, I just want a ton of money. The more money you have, the more things you can do and the more comfortable you can be. I have family in Asia that's dying, I wouldn't mind helping them not die.. you know? Maybe reach out to my extended family as well, so they won't die.
Hate it or love it, it's just better to have money. And when idiots complain about having a lot of money they don't know how to use it wisely. I'll show you how to be happy with a lot of money.
