Obviously excessive alcohol consumption is not beneficial to strength training in any way but just how much can it set you back? How often do those of you that compete drink?

I often have one or two glasses of red wine with dinner. Studies have shown that people who do so live longer than both people who abstain completely and people who drink more. At this dose, I think the health benefits outweigh the negatives.

I'm taking a little break from alcohol. I got black out drunk this last Friday and paid for it with one of the worst hangovers I have ever had. Booze just sounds like bad news at the moment.

Good rule of thumb: make sure you're fingers aren't dry before they go anywhere NEAR her clit/pussy.
Also, besides myself, maybe 2-3 of you have actually done anything like this before..."

I don't think it affects me as much now while I'm young, but I have a feeling I won't be able to do it as much in about 10 years and still gain
like senior year of high school I maxed on squat at 340 the day before our senior trip, we went to florida for 4 days and I got drunk every night on the beach until I didnt remember shiit, woke up every morning at 8 am after only sleeping like 3-4 hours and ate at waffle house, then got drunk until 4 am again, came back home after a day of abstaining from alcohol and maxed at 355
some peoples bodies can gain with it and others can't
obviously a bad hangover is going to affect your workout, and it gets to a point where noone would be able to handle it

Sounds good. But, have you ever wondered about the progress you could have made if you stayed clean? Probably wouldn't have been less progress, right?
Listen guys, I'm not going to lecture anyone about alcohol use. All I will say is this: as someone with a life long drinking problem, it only gets worse; never better. Since time-travel is a few year off, I can't change the things I've done but maybe I can help some of you out. Think long and hard about nurturing the drinking habbit.
And, to the guy who got so drunk he blacked out: Black-outs are a sure-fire sign of a severe problem. Do some reading and think it through man.
My point and then I'll step away from this soap box: IT DOES NOT GET EASIER TO STOP - ONLY HARDER - AND THE OUTCOME CAN NEVER BE A GOOD ONE."The best gift that you can give your children is to Love their Mother"

I don't really have that much of an addictive personality and only really drink like this because it is one of my last years in college. That being said I won't really be drinking this semester because I went really hard that night and now my body is repulsed by the sight of alcohol.
Also I am running out of money so booze is going to eventually have to phase out anyways."Clit stimulation if your fingers are dry is not a good idea. The clit is more sensitive than the underside of a guy's penis, apparently.

It's not about how much you look like you can bench, it's about how much you can bench.
Anyone saying the opposite is an admirer of Peter Andre.

I drink large amounts of scotch generally one day on the weekends pretty much every week and it has had no negative effect on my lifts and I am a pretty old man. I have no trouble not drinking for weeks at a time when I choose not to or if I have scheduling conflicts. Scotch is the nectar of the gods as it does not produce a hangover. If you have trouble saying no to a drink you are probably an alcoholic.

One of the reasons: someone who blacks out from drinking, can't control their alcohol intake.
Another reasons: you can drown, be mugged, freeze to death, break a bone or more. It especially has a negative impact on your personal image if done in a public place. Also blacking out from alcohol overconsumption can mean alcohol overdose. Not all people are tolerant to high concentration of alcohol. If not given proper medical care, they can die after blacking out.
Another aspect of blacking out from alcohol is not being able to deal with whatever gives you stress, and resorting to heavy drinking. That's on the beginning, later it turns into a life wrecking habit. I know a thing or two, I lost someone due to alcoholism.65/30/5

Not going to lie... I have had some of my BEST leg workouts after nights of getting hammred. I use to do legs every sunday morning and I can remember a few saturdays where I got ****tanked and did legs the next morning. After I took my pre-workout supp I would just be ready to go.
Seems as though I can't really get away with this lately... strange.

This is what I found with a quick google search:
"6. Alcohol makes you sleepy, but it affects the kind of sleep you have.
By slowing the cortigal EEGs (the electrical activity of the cortex), alcohol suppresses REM or dreaming sleep so you sink into slow wave sleep instead. Often when the suppression of REM sleep ends (which usually coincides with diminished BAL), there is a "REM backlash", during which you spend more time than usual much later on in the night in dreaming sleep. This may explain why you feel irritable and a bit vague the next day."
