Why is a passport not a valid form of ID at a bar?

It's a government-issued photo ID. Why would they refuse it?

It IS a valid form of ID... at least here in PA. I've used my Passport plenty of times and have always gotten in.

Interesting. Most bars here in the bay that I've gone to have refused it. There is even a big sign by the door to one of them saying "A passport is NOT a valid form of ID."

You can use your passport just fine, it's valid. Most don't though and thus they might draw suspicion.

Government issued photo ID should always be considered valid, no matter where you go. Sounds like the bouncer just decided to be a prick.

    depends on the bar

it may be a valid id but they don't have to accept it

passports do not list things like duis and what not...which is probably why some places don't accept them

It is valid ID. Maybe the bar is trying to help you out by not letting you get drunk with your passport on you.

that's the point... bouncers aren't used to seeing it.

think about it from their point of view, do they stand to gain more from letting you in legitimately or do they stand to lose more by letting you in with a fake and getting introuble. exactly...

so when in doubt at all, a bouncer will refuse, i don't blame them.

That being said, my wallet was stolen and i went out with my passport as my ID. I just said "my wallet got stolen" and that was it.

Some bars scan your DL and keep ALL your info on you. **** is shady. Happened in Calgary, bunch of clubs swapping info and ****. Privacy board/act put a stop to it.

So what if you're a tourist? you're pretty much fukked.
A young bull and an old bull were standing atop a hill looking at a bunch of heifers in a field below.

The young bull says "Let's run down this hill and fuk one of those heifers."

The old bull replies "No. Let's walk down there, and fuk them all."

the only legit reason is that it's business policy specific to the establishment. it sucks and happens a lot down here too, but there's not much you can do about it. a lot of bars will accept them though.

Can they refuse ID though? I mean if it's valid, that's illegal to refuse isn't it?
