energy and fat
Why is it that fat has more than double amount of energy in it as carbs, but when raising fat intake and cutting carbs in a Keto diet people become tired and so run-down?>?
1 gram of fat = 9 cal.
1 gram of carbs = 4 cal.

Who says we get run down?

Carbs are broken down easier by the body than fats.

I get rundown...everyone i talked to gets run down...certainly not as much energy as when not on Keto...so if you don't get rundown from Keto well you must be blessed

I actually find I have more energy while doing CKD. I do it properly...i.e.: 2 gal of water a day, PLENTY of veggies, plenty of good fats, enough protein, PW carbs and whey + clean carb-ups. I eat berries and take the proper vitamins. I feel like this diet has made me a healthier person in general, and of course then I have more energy. In my experience the people that have energy problems on CKD are doing it wrong. Don't get me wrong, I think maximum power is diminished whenever you are in a glycogen depleted state, but overall I have more "energy" throughout the day.

That is pretty much how I feel too. I definitely have more energy, not less on keto. It can take a long time to deplete glycogen stores after a well structured carb-up (glycogen stores are conserved better in a ketogenic state). I have tried stretching out the carb-ups in the initial stages of keto, and that does leave me a bit run-down.
Structure it like bkman4 says and I can't see how hardly anyone would really feel 'run-down' after the intial stages. Most ppl you talk to are probably structuring it really poorly if they all have such low energy.

True, I do not feel run down either. I agree with bkman4 and cardinal...however I do get cravings sometimes for candy, but that's probably b/c of my sweet tooth. I find that I am maintaining my size and strengh while on this diet, if not getting bigger. However, I do take a fat burner while on Keto. Actually, I find that I am less cranky on Keto than just on a high protein diet with a reg. fat/carb intake.

Hmmm.....IDK bro, I don't get headaches when I'm in Ketosis (knock on wood)...I feel really energized when i'm in it, and when my glycogen levels do get depleted right before I carb up...I do get tired, but its usually right before I go to sleep and wake up on my carb up day. I do get occassional headaches when I'm on the Keto diet, but its from not getting enough sleep b/c of late night studying. What kind of food have you been eating Cutler?

Not at all. During induction, common side effects of getting into ketosis are being really drained, getting headaches, of course the nasty taste in your mouth and the smelly urine.
As time goes by and your body adjusts to using fat as a fuel source, the body starts to get used to it, energy levels increase, headaches go away and you feel "normal" again. If your energy levels are still really low after doing keto for a month, you should increase your fat intake a bit or consider taking an ECA supplement if you're healthy enough for it.
This is the case on CKD or on Atkins.

Yeah. It takes time, but it works out for the best.
