    Thumbs up

You know, I'd like to hear something about this too. Frankly, I'm sick and tired of people incessantly ranting on and on about their love with the bench-press, yet no one mentions their awesome pull-up record. I mean, if you're so huge like some of the people around here, put on a weighted belt. Hold a 50-pound (or heavier) dumbell with your feet. Do ONE arm pull-ups.

So I'm really curious why these arn't popular. My guess is because they are so hard

Touche. Personally, however, squats and big bulky, thick legs have never appealed much to me personally.

But still, Kman, how many one armed pullups can YOU do?

Yes, One arm pullups is when the other hand is behind the back buddy. Yeah. try that.

I can do zero, but this is my point. One arm pullups are hard. You could do three fake ones. I mean, doesn't this impress you? Imagine how good a workout pullups could be if you added 10, 20, 50 pounds and then went at them. Beast!

    --------

I'm just gonna quote something from a dictionary. Frankly, I'm amazed you dont see a point in doing one-arm pullups.

    Classification
    Utility: Basic
    Mechanics: Compound
    Force: Pull

    Muscles
    Target

    Latissimus Dorsi
    Synergists

    Brachialis
    Brachioradialis
    Biceps Brachii
    Teres Major
    Rhomboids
    Levator Scapulae
    Trapezius, Lower
    Pectoralis Major, Sternal
    Pectoralis Minor
    Dynamic Stabilizers

    Triceps, Long Head

This is a freaking compound excercise. That means, a steel machine is not doing any work for you. You have huge lats? You can spread your arms and flap them like a bat? Unless that's the case (and I seriously doubt that) you really, really could consider doing pullups.

The best pull up program i have been doing are some of the pull up exercises from the p90x chest and back workout, I have been able to get like 13 more pullups from doing these exercises for around 2 months.

-Corn Cob Pulls - (At the top of a wide grip chin up bring head past knuckles on right side then past knuckles on left side come back to center then lower and repeat)
    -Closed Grip Chin ups/Pull Ups
-Switch Grip Pulls Ups- (3 reps shoulder width chin up then switch to 3 reps shoulder width pull up, do twice for each)
    -Wide Grip Chin up/pulls ups
-Towel Pull ups- (One hand on bar with other hand on towel hanging from bar switch towel hand every three pull ups
    -Then Pull ups to failure

    also
-Weighted Pull ups- Hang weight from a belt and do the pull ups has also helped

These are just to switch things up and make it harder. I have definitely seen improvements from doing them.

    Okay, out with it.

What is it with you and squatting?

I mean, seriously. Why are you attracted to legs so much? Deadlifts are a bitch, that I can understand, but...squatting on the crapper with a bar above your back, looking like you forgot to include grain in your diet and are about to explode, the veins standing out in your red face, what's so exciting there?

You sound pretty narrow minded, like one of those bicep kids. Anyways, big legs separate the bodybuilders from the douchebags. Squats and deads are just as important as benching...or pullups.

Just because we think squats and thick legs are important doesn't mean we're neglecting anything else. It's just that it is common knowledge not to neglect your lats and traps, but alot of people neglect legs.

Also, when Kman said he sees no need to do one armed pullups he meant that from a bodybuilding perspective not for showing off.

You know what, I am one of those big bicep kids. The douchebag, in the scenario, is you, jazi. I do believe I didn't do anything to you to provoke an insult If you can't control those raging hormones of yours, why don't you just refrain from posting on the forums?

Okay, so, quads are the biggest muscle, blah blah, stimulate it, you'll stimulate the whole body, but sweet baby moses, does this mean I should forget nice upper body workouts and decided that it doesnt really matter what I do up there, as long as I'm having an ass-whopping time doing squats? I mean, c'mon guys.... <.<

Right. Bodybuilding perspective. You should re-read my post where I list all the muscles that the pull-up targets. If he couldnt even do a single one arm pull-up, does this not signal to you that it is a pretty ****ing good bodybuilding excercise?

Okay, so, quads are the biggest muscle, blah blah, stimulate it, you'll stimulate the whole body, but sweet baby moses, does this mean I should forget nice upper body workouts and decided that it doesnt really matter what I do up there, as long as I'm having an ass-whopping time doing squats? I mean, c'mon guys.... <.<
No, I don't know where you get this idea that bodybuilding.com neglects upper body. Its just obvious that you have to work out your upper body because that's what people usually see. People rarely neglect upper body, but often neglect lower body. This is why squats and lower body excercises are stressed so much.

I wasn't saying it was a useless excercise, just an unnecessary one. There's better excercises you could spend your energy on for muscle development.

I see your point completely. And I, of course, realize that legs are extremely important to bodybuilding but not seen as such 100% of the time (hell I didn't see them as such.)

However, this thread title, along with my humble little addendum, stress the fact that in their upper body workouts, most people forget about pullups.

I was just wondering why, since pullups seem like such a good excercise. I'm sorry if I came off as challenging you guys I wasnt trying to do that since I am a noob after all and I don't really know much, all departments considered

    Jazi: "There's a better exercise..."

Really? What might this be? Remember, he couldn't even do one of those beast pullups...

I mean, if you're so huge like some of the people around here, put on a weighted belt. Hold a 50-pound (or heavier) dumbell with your feet. Do ONE arm pull-ups.

So I'm really curious why these arn't popular. My guess is because they are so hard
It is hard to compare pull-ups because your weight determines the amount of strength required.

I do agree that pull-ups are one of the best body exercises and also a great determiner of strength, hardly anyone can do more than 10, and very rarely can anyone do 20.

My personal record is 19 close grip, and 15 wide-grip, but I got a belt/chain for christmas and now I've started doing weighted ones, right now I'm at 6 with a 25lb plate.

how many guys doing 1 arm pull ups can squat 400?
Like I said above it's hard to compare strength based on pull-ups, regardless, it is still one of the best upper back workouts you'll find.

Yesss! Somone sided with me! I was going to bring this point up as well, but forgot. Thanks Fiz-iks:

Someone who is huge, weighs 200 pounds, etc. Doing pullups, with one arms, all of his grainy bulk is gonna be working against him. In short, he won't have an advantage like he would, say, at the bench-press. Or the deadlift.
