personal stories on firearms deterring crime
You guys/gals that carry concealed or at least own firearms, have you had to use or just show your weapon as a crime deterrent or foiled a possible situation. Serious thread.
I'm thinking about getting another pistol, but i'm wondering if the extra bother/worry of being in a wrong/illegal place is worth the hassle. I use to carry 15 years ago and never had to use /show my piece.
Also, you that do carry often, why did you start? Did you feel threatened at one time or another, or just live/work in a bad area ?

still fat. workin' on it.
A friend of mine drives a really nice m3 BMW, and is a concealed carrier. He was driving home from work one night, and these kids in two civic hatchbacks pulled up, and were trying to taunt him into a race. Long story short after 15 minutes one of them pulls in front of him, break checks him hard, and he narrowly avoids rear-ending the kid. Then they start throwing **** at his car so he blasts away. These 2 civics are barely fast enough to keep up, but they ARE keeping up. So eventually he called the police, gave them turn by turn updates, and pulled over on a side street when he finally saw them coming down the road. Well the cops overshot the turn, because he forgot to say he had stopped on the side street. The kids empty out of both cars, charge him, and he draws on them. The cops came back in about a minute to all 6 kids on their bellies waiting to be arrested.

Nice... I wonder what the boys intentions were? Did they want his car or did they want to just hurt your friend.

In February, i was living in southern san diego, in a decent area, with a mental/meth/drunk living right next door to my apartment. The complex was all military members/ families, except that fuking retard, that i didnt know about prior to me moving in. thers a lot leading up to this story, but im not writing all that out
So i was sitting there chilling on the misc at home, and i hear him cusing at someone on the phone. i look out my window and he has a half a bottle of taquila and is jsut being an *******. then like 30 mins of that, he starts yelling the "n word" out to these black males that were just sitting at the bus stop, minding their own business. there was prob like 5-6 of them. i waited for them to come kick his ass, which i was hoping for, but didnt lol
then I start hearing him throw glass bottles in the street. so im like fuk this, im calling the sheriffs. Then he starts yelling my name out and i look through the security door, and he runs up to the door, and hes like "youre going to go jump so and so( our neighbor), or im going to kill you" i shut the door (the security door was locked)
so i run to the room, grab my shotgun, and dial 9-1-1, and i i have my shotgun pointed at him through the window. he started banging on the door and trying to kick it in (lmfao wtf). starts banging on the window and going ape ****, screaming ect. whole time im on the phone with dispatch on speaker and have the iron bead of my shotgun pointed at his chest the whole time.
like 2 mins later, the san diego sheriffs swarm out complex and arrest him. he had a huge butcher knife on him, had some type of warrant because he wasnt seeing a doc, and had be to county mental many times. the S.O told me he was under the influence of meth .
it seemed like **** happened so damn fast. sure glad i didnt have to fire, but also glad i had my shotgun.

I have a story about a friend of mine who owns a Kimber 1911 TLE and two AR15s, but in CA concealed carry is next to impossible so when you leave the house you're on your own.
He was meeting some guy on craigslist for a xbox 360 transaction next to dodger stadium, ghetto part of LA, and my friend drives a Benz E350.
Anyways, on his way back from meeting the guy (who lived in the ghetto), he goes through an alley and this mexican guy grabs him thinking he was someone else.
Luckily the guy was mistaken, but made me think that the whole thing could have gone real bad real fast, so I told him at the very least if he's out in a shady part of town he should keep his 1911 on his passenger seat with the magazine next to it so it's still unloaded. Best we can do in CA

The Big Bad Wolf
The telling would take entirely too long. Suffice it to say that drawing has saved me in about six instances and firing has saved me in about as many (in the civil, ian world). If we were talking about military use then we can increase that by a factor of ten at least. If we were talking about combined military and contract work, then the usage of a weapon pointed at maybe bad guys would increase by another factor of ten.

They were out for a race at first, and then when he didn't take them on they got upset. Then I think the fact that they really couldn't keep up on the highway made them angrier. If he would have stayed on the freeway he would've eventually just lost them, but he turned off thinking they'd stay on the highway.
I'm thinking that after things escalated they were going to trash his car, and probably put some serious boots to him.

I really can't begin to fathom the logic behind CA gun laws.
I've only been carrying for about 6 months now, no sketchy encounters yet, thank God. I have, however, had a prostitute come up to me while working and ask me if I wanted to 'have some fun'. Needless to say I work in some damn ghettos.

Not a CC situation, but when I was about 9, maybe 10 years old I was out hunting with my dad. We'd shot something, probably a huge hog, so he pulled the truck up to the thicket and took off to track it leaving me in the truck for safety. After a little while I notice a group of about 15 illegals coming up the road. They split up and go on both sides of the truck. We had some sandwiches setting on the dash so I rolled the window down a little and handed them the sandwiches and rolled it back up. They ate them and looked around and then began trying to open the doors and kinda banging on the windows. I guess at that age I got a little freaked and they ended up leaving rapidly after me pointing my .243 at the group on the left and dad's 1911 at the group on the right. After they were gone I rolled down the window and tried calling my dad, but he was way back so I had to sit and wait for another hour or so until he got back. He'd been on the blood trail but it dried up on him.

im canadian so we cant carry guns. I wish we could. I live in a pretty rough area. I am a recovered drug addict (1 year and 2 months) and i used to get in some sticky situations. Ive been knifed 4 times and wish id had a gun in my instances. Ive been jumped more times then i can remember but the one story im going to tell shows how guns could help.
Me and my two friends were in this patch of trees about 10 feet away from the skate park smoking some herb. We were sitting on the ground and it was pitch black basically. I turn around and see about like 20-25 feet running up behind me. I thought i was just REALLY high but then i feel a knife at my throat and a hear my buddy yelling "GET THE **** ON THE GROUND N....."
I was acting as calm as possible yeknow being like "okay man take whatever" and then i reconginzed "SO AND SO" was the guy with the knife on my throat, I said "SO AND SO, SO AND SO, ITS MIKE HENDRYCKS MAN"
He goes o ****, lets me up and dusts me off. I guess he friends werent cool with letting us leave. So as im leaving i heard a huge thud and my friend gets the side of his face smashed in with a rock. (it was pitch black so i just ran and he stumbled out behind me, broken nose/jaw and a minor concussion) They chased me down the road and cornered me, beat me up, stabbed me and broke my jaw.
If i had had a gun i could have protected myself and my friend.
The story ended with 7 of the guys I knew in prison, they will be getting out this year. Shortly after I got out of the hospital I turned to cocaine and any kind of pill or powder. They ****ed up my life and it took me a year of treatment to get over the night terrors i would have. I still have days were i wake up in the middle of the night sweating with my side burning and arm burning where i was stabbed.
My friend never recovered, he is now a heroin addict and i dont even know if hes dead or alive i havent seen him in years.
If i had a gun I could have saved him.
I finally got sober, turned to the gym and have a very normal life, back at school and everything hopefully graduating this year.
Anyways i know this is a ridiculously long post but I hate Canadians who are like "GUNS ARE STUPID"

if you're carrying you really should stay sober. if that were in the us, and you had deterred the situation or had to fire and get LE involved, they would have **** on you just as hard because you'd been smoking.
part of carrying is doing everything in your power to avoid situations where you'll need to produce your weapon. and staying clear of mind.

never had to show and this is about as close as I've ever came.

biggest reason I started carrying is because you just never know, however I do think it's been well worth it even is a just in case option.

I'm very happy that you got your life turned around and seem to be on the right track now. Don't take this the wrong way, I don't mean it as an insult just as kind of an eye opener. You could have saved years of your own life by not sitting in the shadows of a park smoking pot and putting yourself in a situation to get jumped too. Sorry all that happened to you though.

Possession of illegal substance + firearms usually ends up with some nasty charges from what I understand.
