....equipment / contraptions used to lift before we got our home gyms/gym memberships.
Before i got my membership all i had was a 15lb barbell and 85lbs worth of weights. No bench, obviously you cant bench flat on the floor so i took about 30 books, lined them up in rows, scotch taped them together (didnt even have duct tape) and laid on that for a bench.
I'm sure people have better than this but im bored and i just saw some of the taped up books now piled up in my closet so....anyone got anything good ?

tied rocks with rope and used branches to make a pulley
lifted rocks for deadlifts
put cars in neutral and pulled up a hill
carry someone regardless if willing or not and do lunges up a flight of stairs
push ups at the bus stop
find any horizontal bar and do pull/chin ups
none of which I would do, maybe except the last one and the pulling cars thing sounds fun.

remembered another one, i've only done this one twice though. don't have weights at my dad's house, so in the backyard (a lot of land) i took a tractor tire out of a shed, weighed about 200 lbs. did some weird squat/dead/mili press thing with it, found axles to use for rows and squats, pull ups on trees.

when i was 12 i distincly remember for about a month i would curl shampoo bottles because they were the perfect size, though overtime by using the shampoo the bottle got lighter and i was convinced it was me getting stronger.

Haha let's see.
I would stack my pillows on my bed and lay on them for a bench, how did I not get hurt doing that......
Weight in a backpack for squats, added plastic bags with stuff in them to the bar on deads
tree's for chinups, that's about it.
Edit:Oh right, and I used the kitchen counter for dips.Last edited by Mefreh; 01-05-2010 at 07:55 PM.
