Which military branch is best for officers?

I'm looking at the Army and the Marines. I'm leaning towards the Army because I read that Marine officers get very slow promotions and may even retire only as Majors. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go Navy or USAF and fly planes!

It honestly depends on what you want to do. Here are a few forums you'll be interested in.

One of my Battalion XO's (he's a major) once told me that being an officer is like working at Wendy's: The longer you're in, the higher you go.

Very funny guy.. I miss those days

    Was Army BTW

This is not true. There are plenty of pilots with ****ty GPAs. You need to do well on your ASTB/OAR and you are still competitive in the eyes of the selection boards. You also need to meet other requirements such eyesight, no bad criminal past, no asthma. Though, there are waivers for almost everything. Eyesight can be waived if you get PRK done (Lasik is acceptable in the USAF, but not in the USN). Asthma can be waived in certain circumstances as well.

From what I've heard, naval aviators in the USMC/USN fly much more in their careers than USAF pilots do. As far as it being easier to get into, I am not entirely sure.

To be an officer, you have to have a college degree. doesnt matter what it's in, but you have to have a college education or graduate from an ROTC school like West Point

    wrong.

Yes you need a college degree, and you can either take the ROTC route at any college that has an ROTC, go to the academies or do OTS after you graduate

well the first step is to get accepted. if you don't go the ROTC/academy route for AF, you'll need to have like 3.9 gpa I hear to get considered. It's much lower for ROTC from what I hear. Engineering experience is usually a big plus even though your job doesn't pertain to it.

also if you consider AF, they are accepting technical type degrees so IT/engineering is good. for all branches, it's leadership, multitasking time mgt from what i here. also if you wanna fly planes etc, make sure to get checked out for vision, hearing etc. colorblindness disqualifies me so look into it, if you get a chance, go for it. for marines, navy, army, you have options for helicopters, i dont think we have choppers in the AF.

as for air force enlisted promotion, not quite sure how officers get promoted beyond captain, it's test based off your job and AF knowledge. for officers, you go before a panel of officers but i dunno what they look at but pretty much everything. it's very competitive to get into AF as an officer but being an officer in any branch is striving to be the best so don't count any branch out, if you want to strive for the best, consider all your options
Never forget where you came from.

Well, can you do 20 pullups, 100 crunches in 2 minutes and run 3 miles in 18 min? However, thats a perfect score.

Any other input? A Marine Corps OSO contacted me this morning and wants to talk to me about it. Just want to make sure I know what I'm getting myself into.
