Sad Story - wrestler (serious)

Our community (and society really) lost a champion this holiday. Adam Frey was a wrestler at Cornell, Ivy League Rookie of the year, and a 2 time collegiate national contender.

"As a freshman in 2006-07, Frey made a big splash on the national scene, posting a 17-4 record and earning Ivy League Rookie of the Year and second-team All-Ivy honors.

He was the member of four national championship teams and was an individual national champion as a senior. He was a two-time national prep champion. Frey was also a five-time freestyle and Greco-Roman All-American, and in 2005, he was a freestyle and Greco-Roman national champion" (Ithaca Journal Dec 27, 2009)

After his Sophomore year he got in a car crash where tests determined he had cancer. His response was typical for a champion: "Cancer has met it's toughest opponent yet." It was a 2 year battle where Adam did public speaking and hosted a radio show about his struggles. He formed a foundation to live on in case he didn't.

This opponent could only be held off so long and Adam passed the day after Christmas. As a former wrestler this touched my heart. I never had the privilege of meeting him, though we likely pumped the same iron.

very sad, indeed. i followed adam thru his days at blair, and then on to cornell, looking forward to some competition with troy nickerson, although adam turned out to be a bit bigger.

been following the tragic story on themat. guess god wanted adam on his team.

You should not use a RIP thread to curse at another member who was praising the courage of someone who has recently died. You are an example of the part of society who worships glamour and celebrity. Maybe you want to be one. Get a better looking tan though first

Truly sad. May his family, loved ones and friends find some consolation. What can you do but remember one for who she/he was, and celebrate them in life by immulating those fine qualities that marked them for who they were?

It's the ones with seemingly everything going for them; youth and health and smarts & get taken down by cancer; makes you grr and shake your head and think this is just SO wrong.
