There have been a fair bit of folks on this site as well as the other one I keep a journal on who have been asking me how I'm feeling (physically AND mentally)... People in the gym, people on ********, people at the bar I bounce at and friends and family have been asking as well... So I really gave it some thought, sincere thought. I weighed out the pro's and con's, the rights and wrongs...etc, and this is what I came up with:
When I train, I'm not just moving weights, I look at it as moving mountains. I sit on the military press and remember sitting in the doctors offices before the surgery, listening to them tell me I'm done, I'll never train again. I lay down on the flat bench and remember waking up after the operation, staring at the lights in the hospital, catheter in so I could piss, oxygen tube in my nose helping me breath, feeling helpless... I lean against the stretching post before my workouts, and think to when I was using a walker to walk, think back to when I couldn't even walk without assistance.
I think of all of these things, think of where I came from, think of where I want to be, and know that all that stands between now and then, is me. It's my mentality standing in between the present and where I want to be. It's my rehabbing spine that hinges where I'm at and where I'm headed... No matter how I look at things, I see that all that divides life in training is me, and to get to where I know I can be, I need to move more than weights, I need to move mountains.
Mind body connection, that's the weakest link in so many peoples regimens, in so many peoples lives. People who wonder "if" they can do this or "if" they can do that... Rather than wonder "if", I just look at it as "when". "When" I leg press 1500lb+ today I'll be sure to write it down in the forums later. "When" I bend over and touch my fingers to my toes stretching I'll remember post surgery when I couldn't bend over more than 1" without wanting to throw up from the pain and agony.
So... to answer the folks who've been wondering how I'm feeling, the answer is strong. I have painful days... and less than painful days, high's and low's, but bottom line, end of the day, I feel strong.
Mentally.
Physically.

I've been there, brother, so I can empathize. The words, mind-body connection, are the most important words, in my opinion, when it comes to getting back from an injury. Takes people time to figure that out, though.

Todays Workout:
Legs:
Squats*
*(I went as parallel as parallel goes folks, literally trained with a 30-35 time placing show competitive power lifter today, he gave me the up signal every rep).
Bar x10
135x10
225x5
315x5
365x3
405x1
315x5
Actual squats, stretched the shoulder out as loose as it would go and did it to it!!! Felt sore as all Hell by workouts end, attempted 500x1 but the shoulder wouldn't even hold up to take the weight off the rack. Bummer.
HS Leg Press:
820x10
1090x10
1270x6*
*Sore legs from squatting already.
HS Leg Extension:
270x10
360x10
360x10
SLDL:
135x10
135x10
135x10*
*Wide stance on these, but I can tell you I think they're really going to strengthen my lower back!!!!!!
Great workout!!! Working out with Mike was awesome too, just having such a seasoned competitive power lifter (bench presses 3x his bodyweight of 175lb, squats 540@175lb as well). Gave me the down and up signals each rep, really felt like a well rounded workout!!!

Dead Lift:
Bar x 10(warm up)
135x10 (warm up)
225x10 (warm up)
340x5
390x5*
*started to feel like I was gonna throw up lunch and water.
440x5**
**started to feel light headed
Assistance Work:
Dead Lift:
275x10
225x10
225x10
225x10***
***had to sit down after set, felt like I was gonna pass out.
225x10****
****couldn't drive myself home, Jewlz had to take the wheel while I pretty much passed out in the passenger seat.
Had awful sleep last night, about 4 hours, and ate a big meal right before we left to train (7 eggs, 4 slices toast & butter, 10oz ham steak, 24oz. milk), so today's workout was strong enough but felt really uncomfortable...
