    Glute Activation on the Deadlift

Can someone explain to me why when I do a deadlift motion without any weight in my hands, and I squeeze my glutes at the top of the movement, I feel my glutes contract so hard.

As soon as I pick up a weight thats a bit challenging, I try to squeeze my glutes but they wont get the burning heavy contracting feeling..

I am going to assume its because my glutes are very weak so when I pick up a weight, other muscles than the glutes take over the lift.. can someone confirm? and how should I go about making sure my glutes activate properly during deadlifts?

    Thanks

    You answered your own question

Practice with lighter weight until you get it down pact. Also post a video, it could also be your form.

I don't go to the gym anymore so above stats are useless.

Only do weighted calastentics in the comfort of my own home!

Pretty sure that’s how i pulled my hamstring because of my weak glutes..

I’ve seen this and it looks like it’s a good activation exercise.

Likely a form issue, with a lighter weight it's easier to focus actively contracting your glutes hard

with a heavier weight, you likely have other body parts compensating trying to lift the weight up

Buy a hip circle or similar product off of amazon. I found it to work wonders for firing up my glute muscles before squats and deads.
