I use to have big calves growing up. Even grown men would ask me if I played football. My response was always, I'm a girl silly man. But honestly I miss my calves which I have lost as I've gotten older. This thread is really what I was looking for!

You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.

I'm with you brah. I've tried everything and my calves are still potato. They look better flexed, and are stronger, but in day to day normal life with shorts it looks like I don't even legs.

Genetics decide your starting size and insertion point - these thing have a lot to do with how they look - as they do with any muscle. Any they can be a little stubborn to grow, but people should never use genetics as an excuse. Some people are gifted and have good genetics, and it might not seem fair, but unless you have some deformity or can't break down protein or something, your genetics are fine and you can achieve a great physique.

Yes, this is true. Know anyone with 18-20 inchers that have never trained calves? Of course being heavier and walking on your front toes does help some, but it depends like any ther bdypart-muscle insertions and such.
I sure have seen them on both guys and girls- and girls that arnt high in bodyfat by any means-there an asian girl she must have 18 inchers and thats just how it is.
I have not been able to get mine over 17.5's and thats pumped or after a heavy calve workout. Lately theyve been measuring 17; although I did stop doing 750 lb calve raises and just started ding them back this week-many guys do 400 and 500 and have bigger calves then me so---- and havent measured, but ive done this weight before consistantly two years ago, and they didnt budge over 17.5. Ill keep trying bc I hurt my back or calve or something--on very heavy calve riases and thats why I had to stop. and just building back up to this again. upper legs are 29 inches and calves are 17 or so. Steve Reeves said something like there needs to be like a 10 inch difference s my calvs should be by bodybuilding standards 19-it is what it is. I Brought mine from 15 or 15.5's starting about thirteen years ago to 17- at their biggest 17.5
if mine improve ill update and put what I think helped my calves improve. goodluck on calvesLast edited by JohnSmeton; 11-28-2014 at 01:23 AM.

THIS x 2. People fail to realize the importance of higher reps in this exercise. At 8-12 reps, at a heavy weight, you barely get bloodflow into the muscle. Once you hit the 25-30 range, the gastrocs and soleus should be poppin. Thanks for promoting the high rep range MaoriNate!
Everybody wanna get big, but nobody wanna do legs!!

I've been upping the weight on seated calf raise by 10kg each week for the past 6 weeks or so. Now at 170kg. Doing 6 x 6 usually once a week (sometimes twice).
I haven't really seen much development, a bit sure, but I feel like they should be a lot bigger.

The Holy Grail of Calve Workouts
Boys Boys, I've been hitting the gym hard for the past 5 years, and the one thing I learned was this great workout for your calves. Grab a 35lb dumbbell and an incline bench and start doing a contrencration curl on an incline bench. For some reason but you feel it in the calves, abs, upper back and don't forget those shoulders. Hope this helps cause it really helps me!!
