    ***Knife Thread***

I thought there already was one... but there are only 7 pages of threads in this section now??

    Oh well.

For Christmas I got a nice Opinel #6.

For those that don't know these are cool knives that have been made in France since the 1890s. The handle is beachwood, so they are extremely lightweight, which makes them a breeze to carry. The blade is carbon steel. Fancy modern knives with fancy locks and spring mechanisms and lightweight materials are cool, but there's something to be said for a wood handled, simple carbon blade knife. It's a cool little knife.

Anyway, post up your knives you have, knives you want, knives you'll never have haha. Reviews and pics welcome

Opinels are cool little knives, so cheap it dosent matter if you lose them.

    I have a few knives (mostly working knives that arent very photogenic) However something I have which I find alittle special is this;

Only cost me 50.00GBP ($80) which is pretty good for a damascus blade. Took the photo myself and posted it on the misc ages ago and got negged for it by some brit that automatically assumed I was some knife weilding criminal lulz, I'll go see if I can find the thread

I used to have a Buck Nobleman, but I lost it while hiking last Spring I would definitely get another one ; sturdy locking device, blade kept a very sharp edge.. I just needed a sheath Definitely worth the $30

I'd love to make a leather sheath, and try to find another Buck knife with a partial serrated edge..

I'm really not one for ''tactical'' knives, as I see them for the most part to be impractical, but the Cold Steel Recon Scout makes me drool

how do you like the zing?

I know they say those grooves in the blade help performance but I've always been a bit skeptical.

I EDC this guy, it's my first knife and has been very handy. I would like to add a stronger fixed blade for the toolbox and half serrated folder for outdoor use in the future though.

I like the Zing and as far as I can tell the grooves are just for show. It's a very nice knife and always a good conservation piece when I pull it out and people see the groves.

We were issued Gerber Applegate Combat Folders when we got to our new unit..... naturally the blade being long as **** they were quick to label them 'illegal' and had us turn them back in.... so naturally I kept mine. It's a great knife if I do say so, pretty hefty and the blades got enough heft I could probably take out a zombie or two with it if need be.

have a benchmade mini-griptallian and a kershaw assisted opener of some sort. got it a couple years ago and i think its been discontinued.

benchmade is only a couple months old, but is a champ, the kershaw is an effin warrior, haven't had a knife take such a beating and survive as long.

next purchase is hopefully a benchmade fixed-blade of some sort

Didn't get anything for Christmas but I've been an on again/off again collector for years.
These days I'm down to a paltry few which include a Chris Reeve Sebenza, a Fehrman Last Chance as well as a Fehrman Peacemaker(I just love that 3V) and then I have a few of the Buck Stockman knives to support my whittling habit.
I usually edc my SOG Blink due to it's 'sheeple friendly' profile and have every intention of picking up a full stainless Spyderco Endura(plain edge) as well as a few of the Cold Steel Voyagers(4 inch clip point plain edge) for more edc options.

just out of curiosity what's your rationale for half serrated?

Personally I've always found half serrated knives to be a pain in the butt, not enough of either blade to really do the specific tasks effectively.

the only exception for me is the veff serrations on CRKT blades, they are big enough that they can be resharpened fairly easily.

IMO you're better off getting a plain edge for pretty much everything, the only time I go serrated blade(Minus my exception) is when I can get a full serrated blade that I plan to use for self defense.

thanks, I've been thinking about getting a groove.

Probably still will, thanks for the heads up

if you're looking for a very nice EDC blade option I would suggest one of these...

Just stepped into the knife game. Here's my first non-cheapo.

I'm new to the knife world, anyone got any good online knife resources? I wanna learn about different blade types and uses, different type of steels, what kind of knives for edc/survival/self defense, reputable companies, and etc.

ah man this thread makes me want to get a bad ass knife!!

I carry a CRKT M16-10KZ every day... I picked it up for $20 at wal-mart... it's held up pretty well but I'd love to get a benchmade or something.

I carry a Gerber EVO Junior for my day to day. Simple, cheap, and functional.

Anytime I'm going outside for the purpose of being outside (hiking, fishing, etc.) I carry a Kershaw Ken Onion Scallion. This is by far my favorite knife, and my third one total. I've had a leek in the past, but I like the general shape of the scallion a little more. Using a straight bladed scallion at the moment. Since I primarily use it for fishing I didn't want the serrations.

I think so much of it that I have two of them
I agree about the plain edge option. I don't think much of serrations for anything other than seat belt/rope/material cutting personally.
I tend to keep an agressive edge on the back third of my field knife for more bite while the front 2/3 gets more of a refined edge for slicing and push cuts.
It's relatively easy to do with a decent diamond stone such as the dual sided DMT that I carry with me.

Thanks for the heads up on the CRKT, I'm definitely going to be checking those out.

A lot of folders in this thread. Gotta love the Opinels though, pretty high quality knives. Anyways, here are my favorite ones. I put a measuring tape beside them to show their size.

The first one is a Fairbairn-Sykes fighting dagger. It's a pretty vicious little knife, with a sick tip.

The second one is...well, not exactly a knife. Its a spartan lakonia replica. It doesn't know if it wants to be a knife or a sword, but it's really a performer.

The third one is a Jung Bahadur kukri. It's really a beast, but a bit too tip heavy (as in it snaps at your shoulder when you swing it).

The fourth one is an original 1909 bayonnet, issued to the Argentine Navy back in the days. I haven't done anything with it and I won't. I just try to preserve it.

The last one is just a farm knife I bought in Argentina. The stag handle on it looks really neat. It's a good knife around the bbq to cut meat and such.

I never heard of those. I have always liked knifes but never really researched any of them. I have 2 Gerber knifes right now that's it. Anyway I ordered one today after looking into them.

    I like this for skinning:

Also I have an anza knife made for skinning. It's the sharpest a knife has ever come from the factory for me. I think he makes them out of carbon steel saw blades or something. Take a really knice edge. I like smaller knives for skinning because they are more nimble.

Damn dude what do you use for sharpening/honing?

I generally use an Arkansas soft followed by an Arkansas hard oilstone.

Eventually want to get a nice set of Japanese whetstones.

A belt sander, I'm sharpening a Boker Slippie in this video, if it's pretty dull I'd go 320grit belt - 1200grit belt - .5micron CrO on a leather belt
