If the amount of resistance is high enough? Can it be done? for example, the Terrell Owens Bodylastics bands carry up to 250lbs of resistance, can one build muscle with that?

of course if the resistance is progressive overload it's good.
most bands have limits in actual "real weight" equivalence, but they also offer dynamic resistance. Resistance increases with ROM.
Most of the time, you'll see bands, etc as a supplement to real iron, not a full replacement. They're also handy for high rep burnouts and travel well."Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret."
Training regularly but no progress?
You need one or more of these: more food, more weight, more reps or more rest.

they'll work best for conditioning and will allow you to do more unilateral work...
good luck with them!"Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret."

You CERTAINLY can and will build muscle with them, think and use them as weights.
I had a huge set of them once, but eventually stopped using them, they affect the body in a different way to a weight.
They were tough on my joints and I also kept picking up little muscle tears, ultimately leading to a big re-tear of my old shoulder injury.
So I'm saying yes, but be wary.If you appreciate what I've said, then give some rep ;)

bands should not be stressful on the joints, and are generally used to strengthen smaller muscles that heavier weights do not address suffiently. if youre going for a bulk, do not bother with therabands. if you are an athlete and trying to increase indurance of the smaller muscles, then yes do use them.
in baseball and other overhead sports, therabands can help prevent injury and are the difference between being able to go the distance or only lasting a few innings.Last edited by JackG; 12-22-2009 at 10:25 PM.
An extra 10% is the difference between good and great.

Thanx so far for the advice. Im gonna lift weights 2 days and work the larger groups the bands dont, and work the other 3 with the TO Bands. That's added onto the 40 mins of cardio I'll be doing those 5 days a week. Not goin for the bodybuilder look, just trying to look lean and fit. Im a bulky 5'9 260 with alot of fat on me. Got a Vegas trip in April, trying to lean down and see how much I can transform till then.

Bands are used to change the power curve, ie provide more resistance at lockout of a given lift, which can be hard on the joints.
Here's a quote from a website that sells resistance bands (http://www.prowriststraps.com/bands_...t_lifting_band)

You don't have to do either weight OR bands. We often use weight AND bands on the bar, for example sometimes we'll squat with 400 pounds and 225 pounds of band tension on the bar (at the top). Training with bands have helped increase my strength significantly. Just take it easy with them at first because they can be hard on the joints.
