BJJ and Kickbboxing
In January i am going to begin training kickboxing and BJJ for total of 5 times a week.
Monday-BJJ
Tuesday-Kickboxing
Wed-
Thurs-Kickboxing
Friday-Kickboxing
Saturday-BJJ
Sun.
I have wed and sunday free of classes, i am wondering what sort of workout should i be doing to maintain and possibly bulk on lean muscles. BJJ and Kickboxing are cardio intensive classes. And how much protein should i be consuming?
Each class is about 1hr and half to 2hrs.
I am currently 5'4-5'5 and 145-150lb depends.

As you said BJJ and Kickboxing are cardio intensive classes. Dont over do it or you will get injured. Just do the BJJ and kickboxing for a few months before adding anything else into the mix is my advise.

I agree with texmo, however if you're set on doing something else I recommend Rippetoe's Starting Strength.

Do 2 days only and if possible do one on the same day as one of your classes so that you have at least 1 full day off.
Check the nutrition stickys for protien intake.

Given your height/weight, you don't want to put on weight because you should be cutting to 135/139 to compete. I'd stick with high reps of bodyweight exercises two days a week.
If your classes are in the evening, i would do your workouts on like M/Th mornings.

I currently Work out 5 to 6 times a week and also do kickboxing/mma / Bjj 4 days of the week . To give you a idea. 10 oclock till like 1120 am is my gym worktime then around 8 to 930 mma training time. MY sched looks something like . Monday Gym 10 30 , Bjj 8-930 , Tuesday Gym 3 -415 then 8-930 Mma training Kickboxing/Boxing/Mui thai depending on the that day, Wesenday Gym 530-640 NO mma training that day, Thursday 12-1.10 then 8 to 930 kickboxing/mui thai/ boxing. Friday REst day I do nothing . Saturday Bjj practice 12-130 then gym 5-610 . Sunday 3 to 415 . I eat Six to 5 meals aday depending on when i wake up lowest is four. I go around 2300 to 3000 calories a day. Hard for me to explain exactly what i eat but its pretty much only clean fats carbs and protein and veggies / fruits a day. I never try to eat the same foods in one day. Fyi the picture up now on my profile was taken after my first 8 weeks of gym time and that was like 7 months ago ill update another soon

I had a similar schedule last summer
Where i was training 2 classes in 1 night but at the same time i had to do weight lifting for the upcoming wrestling season.
My schedule went a little something like this
Monday - Lift ( full body )7am
- 5:30-7 Kicking boxing class
- 7:30-9 BJJ
Tuesday- Usually some sort of Ab or cardio workout (7am)
- 6-7:30 MMA class
- 7:30- 9:30 BJJ
Wed- Same as Monday
Thurs- Same as tuesday
Friday - Lift 7am
- Sparring 5pm
- 6-7 No-Gi grappling
Saturday: Sometimes did an MMA circuit training at 4pm, or rest day
Sunday: Lift
I did not really measure my protien intake at the time but I was always taking pre-workout supplements before my lifts and was taking MRI:Pro NOS after my work outs and syntha 6 shakes after training. Along with a somewhat healthy diet I never felt fatigue and I didnt feel i was overtraining though it seems like a lot.
I am about the same size as your 5'6" and im wrestling at the 149 pound weight class in college.
Trainings some what similar though I am training every day at 4 and lifting usually 2-3 times a week tuesday thursday and sunday.
My protien intake now is about 1.5x my body weight and I am maintaining a very healthy healthy diet containing lots and fruits and veggies with every meal. Most of my carbs come from my fruits and veggies, protiens from lean meats and my protien shake I'm beggining to take Myofusion from Gaspari, but was taking muscle milk for a little, and my healthy fats come usually from almonds

I train traditional jujutsu twice a week, ninjutsu twice a week and aiki-jujutsu twice a week, I also do muay thai once a week. All on seperate days so training 7 days a week... though i sometimes have to miss sessions if I'm going out to lunch or I'm simply too poor to travel (grrr!).
I'm just getting into lifting but I've been doing bodyweight routines and heavy bagwork around my training and other than the occasional ache and the time i messed up my wrist on the bag I've never had any problems. I was still drinking and partying too.
If i did have a burn out I'd just take a day or two off and then get straight back to it. I train because I love it and if you're the same I don't think a little fatigue would stop you anyway!
There are famous names in martial arts like a certain Judo exponent who would train full contact 3 hours a day, 7 days a week... I agree that one should not start training at the level of a professional athlete straight away but to be honest the capacity of the human body for physical activity is very high if you have a good diet and you sleep well.
I have a relaxed lifestyle being a student so the way I see it, the training I do puts no more strain on me than someone doing a job in construction or warehousing. I think if I did a physical job and did the training I'd have many more problems. I'm not sure what you do all day yourself?
Good luck though mate, hope you find what you're looking for.

Good luck to you in that, I was taking NO explode for my lifts but not for training as it made me feel sluggish and heavy. But it's a great product. I'm now going to try some products from gaspari though
But yeah you should take some sort of creatine product and an NO product will help with training as it helps increase bloodflow and oxygen intake

The primal face of pain
You should be eating industrial quantities of food if you intend to bulk and pull mma: 6-7 serious meals a day with inmaculate timing, not to mention the compulsory 8 hours of sleep. Keep us posted once you start training.

my problem with creatine is alot of my buddies taken it and lost their gains rapidly when they stopped. any supplement out there would produce a rather more permanent effect?

Protein smoothies are my favourites.... plenty of fruit! I have antioxidant, tribulus pro and cod liver oil capsules. Powder wise in addition to the whey I take gingko and this green stuff... can't even remember its exact name now! It's all for healthy brain function, nervous system, immune system and perhaps keep the dreaded cancer at bay. The tribulus also increases your testosterone levels... I always notice the horniness lol Its all about health with me though not about mass.... that would just be a nice aside.
It really depends what you need?
Don't spend loads of money on gimmicks though. Stick to the basics, stick to what is tested. I don't bother with creatine personally because with me its simple calories that are going to make the real difference.

i'm doing something similar but with boxing now...the kickboxing guy was douche who said "do it like I'm doing it" and then not giving constructive verbal feedback. Basically "look at me. look at me." i'm there to learn.
any way my day is
monday - friday: weightroom and HIIT sprints at 6 AM for an hour
mwf- BJJ class (session is 1.5 hours long)
T TH- run 2 miles to my Boxing lessons ad run 2 miles when I'm done (session is about 1.5 hours long)
On Saturday I relax and play golf with friends but Sunday I run/walk about 5 miles (run for a song, walk for a song)
Supps: I'm taking. Creatine before my 6 am workout, whey protein, glutamine, multivitamin
Champions are not born. They are built.
You wondered if all the pain and sacrifice is worth it...now you know.
Gold medals aren't made of gold. Not really. They're made of sweat, dedication, and a hard to find alloy called guts.
Everybody wants to win. But not everybody is willing to do what it takes.

I love nothing better than that feeling of being absolutely exhausted from working my ass and drenched in sweat. At the end of the day when I land on my bed and am asleep in three minutes and sleep like a rock...love it.

I would say do a full body workout two days a week. Go heavy one day and lighter the next. Or if you feel thats not enough go for a third day somewhere(Every other day kinda thing) Or do upper body, lower body, upper body light, lower body dynamic. If you feel your overdoing it then slow it down a bit for a while till your body catches up. And ask your trainers about supplements. Most importantly, read about the supplements people are saying you should take. No offense but I dont think they know everything about the product they are endorsing. Just a thought...
