'good' is subjective. good time for me is < 12 minutes. my friend is die hard runner, good time for him is < 9 min.

    if youre not a runner...id guess < 14 min.

12-13 Minutes is a decent time that most anyone could achieve with a basic level of fitness, i can't see why you would be slower than that if you train for it.

thanks for all the responses. Ive never timed myself in any runs. I usually run 2 miles on a cross country trail(decent pace). Im sure I can run it faster on a level track than a trail in the woods.
Anyway was just looking for some base times to try achieving.
    thanks, reps for all.(on recharge)

It really depends on what you're going for. If you're going all out, at your weight I would say that under a 14 minute is LEGIT. At my weight, I would say under 12 minutes is LEGIT. Regardless, there are elite HS'ers running under 9. Scary stuff.

6-7 min miles aren't something out of reach provided you train sensibly and consistently, like anything put the effort in and you'll reach your goals, also with running more than most things genetics seem to dictate endurance and overall speed.

youre stats are very similar to mine. When cutting I have a 3.2 mile course I run, it takes me about 28 minutes or so or about 9 minutes per mile. If I were only running 2 and for time I could probably get 15-16 mins total. To get much under that I would probably have to start losing some muscle. When I was really skinny in hs with no muscle I ran 5:15 for the 1600, not elite but not bad.

Added bodyweight is definitely something to consider when running distance, i was running far better times when i was a skinny recruit in basic training.

thats really nothing too extreme. i ran a 19:58 3 mile on my final physical fitness test when i was finishing officer candidate school. and i by no means am a runner. i f*cking hate it with a passion. and my knees were jacked. a 7 min mile is a pretty decent time but can be much better. we had a guy in my platoon that ran like a 14 somethin 3 mile. granted he was like 6'1 and probably weighed about 150 pounds.

Consider the Army PT test when I was a young Sgt way back when, 13:30(or something within a few seconds of this) was max, and 17:00(ish) was a fail, I'd shoot for 14:00 or so.

I ran 11:00 flat at peak conditioning. Most of us ran 12:00-13:00 unless the hangover was particularly bad. Of course most of us smoked several packs a day....

Try shifting your weight back, don't lean forward. This will not only help you to maintain a pace better, but is also better for your joints. Learn to run by pulling with the hams, not pushing with the quads. Your legs should work like a leaf spring, not a strut.....that is when your body weight comes down, your leg that will be taking the weight should not be directly under you...it should be forward of your center of gravity.

I see people on treadmills all the time that are always leaning forward like they want to accelarate. It makes for a very poor and damaging running form. I see em on the track when I use to run and they can never keep a constant pace. I am not saying change your gate or stread.....just lean back a little.
I never saw a wild thing
    sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.

I would honestly shoot for 14-16 (TOPS) mins 2 mile. When I came back from Iraq, for my final APFT with the Army I ran a 2 mile for 12:30, and by no means am I good at running. I used to hate it with a passion. I never ran track or anything.

But, taking your weight and build into consideration, 14-16 mins would be an excellent time

Hi guys, well i take the dog for a walk every day and do just over 2 miles and it takes me about 34 minutes (Walking) im a big lad but still fit and like i say thats a brisk walk so running it i should imagine i could knock easily 10-14 minutes off that time.

Im 260 lbs and 5'10 so not the greatest of sizes for pounding pavements but a brisk walk everyday certainly burns my calories anyway !!

best i have done is 12 miles in just over 2/12 hours ... Walking that is

i think 15-16 is 'good' for someone your size. if you train for it you could probably break 13-14 mins in a few months.

At age 28, if you wanted to pass the Army APFT you would need to run it in under 17 minutes.

I was pleasantly surprised that this wasn't just another excuse to e-stat. (i. e., I can run 2 miles in 3 mins. Is that good?)

I'm with you. I've never been good at distance running. In college, it about killed me to do 1.5 miles in 10 minutes (and that was after some off-season training program so i was about as well prepared as i've ever been).

2 miles kicks my ass, since I first made this post Ive ran the 2 miles a few times, best time was 18..not good but its cold out. (making an excuse)
Been working on it though, I run 1-1.5 miles a day on a treadmill(which I know is nothing like running outdoors) but 1.5 I usually get in around 12 mins now.
My 5/3/1 progress can be found here.

Awesome man!! Keep working on it! Treadmill is a great alternative, especially for when it's cold outside. Keep it up, and you'll be good in no time

It's not really THAT easy for everyone to be able to run quick. Some are INCREDIBLY slow, while others are average. Just cause someone else can run quick, doesn't mean everyone can. and if you can run between 6-7 min/mile, you're doing pretty good in my book. 14 mins for 2 miles...not bad, especially if you hate running and aren't good at it.

Not trying to be a jerk, but I'd presume that most bodybuilders are good runners, considering most of us squat 3+ times a week, work towards low BF, and also do cardio training.
