So on a RARE day like this where I woke up very early, ate less than usual, and had a late lunch (no dinner yet), I feel tired earlier than usual, given that I had less sleep the night before. I heard stuff about not eating X amount of hours before bed. How true is this? Or is it only for specific foods (i.e., carbs? fats?)
I am bulking up, but I am of course looking to gain muscle, not bad weight. So on a day like this where I am heading to bed a bit earlier, what's best for me: skip dinner? force dinner? something else?
How cautious should I be about eating before bed in general?
Thank you.

Eat before bed but be careful what you eat. Excess carbs before bed messes with your insulin levels while you sleep and can add fat and hinder natural GH (i'm quoting this from memory so it may be off a little bit)
Have 2 scoops of casein protein before bed and you'll feed your muscles all night. It's good for bulking and cuttingTHE AWARE

He never said anything about being in a deficit actually. He asked should he skip dinner if he's going to go straight to bed or an alternative to that. I just cautioned him on what he eats before bed. Should he go gobble down a bowl of alfredo and then hobble off to bed. I think not. I'm not arguing that you lose fat/muscle when you're in a calorie deficit state. i simply stated that excess carbs before bed have a negative way of effecting your hormone levels. I said nothing about protein magically making new muscle tissue when you were in a deficit. Maybe I didn't explain my point well enough the first time around, but I stand by my opening statement that excess carbs should be avoided directly before sleep.

I actually didn't get to eat enough today at all.
I did sleep most of the day and will probably try to do the same tomorrow.
Must have strained some muscles in my neck, I've been getting some wicked headaches and I'm pretty sure that's the cause.
:P
Was trying to pack in some calories to make catching up easier tomorrow.

Catabolism doesn't occur if simply one doesn't eat before sleep.
Catabolism occurs after a long period of malnutrition. More like days, not a few hours. The body doesn't catabolise granted proper nutrition is considered prior. A person for example could eat a few hundred grams of protein in the afternoon, and not eat before bed, and still be perfectly fine.
