Get Smolov or Die Tryin'
Most poorly done exercises in your gym??
I was inspired to make this thread as i was working out yesterday and this kid sits down next to me with 45lb plates on each side of the preacher bar. He was doing skull crushers. Now with skull crushers you want to bring the bar almost to your forehead hence the name skull crusher. Funny thing is this kid did just that. He brought it down for a half of a rep than he picked his head up off the bench and used his head for the other half of the rep lol
must be a new half triceps half neck exercise

Always squats and bench. Quarter squats and benchers who use half ROM.

A few weeks ago this 5ft10 180 lb kid came to my gym. I have never seen him there before and it was obvious he doesnt work out as he had very little muscle on his body. He had some strange infatuation with me and started doing whatever exercises i was doing. Only thing was as i used a full ROM he used a half ROM and whatever i repped that was his max

Squats. No friggin contest.

I'd have to say recently at my gym people who squat have been doing quite well with form...
Now when everyone does shoulders, there is a lot of overly heavy db swinging. Abs are pretty bad too with just just using their hips.

Nearly all back exercises.
Half squats, half reps with most things.
All in all most people at my gym use poor form.
And No one reracks weights which really annoys me!

I saw a kid the other day on the smith machine doing some sort of behind the back, upright row, quarter squat, calf extension... I guess he was doing a full body routine that day...

hah i feel like 60+% of ppl use poor form. Going to the gym actually bothers me cause i see so many ppl doing so many things wrong. wish i had a huge gym in my basement.
I also love when that lil kid who wears the beater to the gym and plays baseball so he thinks he has the worlds strongest legs. He throws on 8 plates on a hack squat machine and squats 3-6 inches deep does a set of ten than claims he can hack squat 600+ lbs. after all is said and done he leaves the 8 plates on each side on the machine and doesnt put them away for the next guy/girl to use

A lot of people I have seen seem to have problems doing lateral raises- they bend their elbows so much that the dumbbell moves up and down hardly at all.
And of course attempts at clean and presses which for most people are simply reverse curl and presses.
Strength + Speed = Power
If you never fail, you aren't truly pushing yourself to the limit. If you never push yourself to the limit, how do you know what you're truly capable of?

Pretty much all the major lifts. Squats, bench and incline press. What is up with the 1/2 ROM crap?

Military Press. People bringing that bar down to only their forehead...you might as well go do more close grip bench press

Less ROM=More Weight=Higher Ego=Happier Lifter.
Whatever helps them get into it I guess. I know when I started I wasnt using a full ROM on everything

squats = most popular exercise with poor form.
Lots of 1/4 squats

Ovary Puncher!!!!!!!! O.o
I agree that squats is the most frequently butchered exercise mostly due to people loading up the bar and then only go down a few inches. I can count with the fingers on one hand how many people I've actually seen go down to parallel or past it.
Second exercise has to be the DIPS.... every person I've seen go on it only lower themselves a few inches at best and goes back up. In fact I saw a guy the other day who looked like he was having seizures because he would only go down about an inch or two but he's trying to do it fast.
And I hate the half ROM **** too.... it makes me wonder how many people walk around claiming they lift X amount while in reality they lower the bar a couple of inches and then go back up.

Squats, no question. Only a quarter of people actually go below parallel (full squat), most end well above parallel. One time I saw a personal trainer showing a new hire the back squat, and she didn't go down to parallel. **** these people.
Deadlifts get an honorable mention. You lift it DEAD from the floor, not down to three inches of the floor and bounce back up. Otherwie you're using your stretch reflex to cheat on the rep. The number of rounded backs also makes my back twitch in sympathy.

funny, the most popular lifts are the ones people can't seem to do properly; squat, bench, deadlift, curls

I can't stand little guys that go to bench and put on like twice their weight to only be able to have 1 rep where when they are lifting the weight up, only there shoulder blades are touching the bench!!!!
I hate when people curl with there elbows way back past there body
PAIN is your body getting rid of WEAKNESS

I go to the gym @ my university....and there are way too many ego lifters in there. Everyday I am in the gym I see people doing every manner of exercise wrong, I can't even choose which one I see most.
I kind of get a kick out of seeing people do more weight than me with terrible form though. I get to give out the crazy raised eyebrow look a lot.

Tonight? We make soap
i saw people doing a hybrid mix of skull crushers and close-grip bench. they had the bar at their chin and were doing some awkward pushing up motion...but i over heard them saying they were doing skull crushers.
the most poorly done exercise at my university gym might have to be curls. too many people do the whole body swing curl.
dumbbell shoulder presses is another. some kids arch their back so much they are practically looking straight up in the air.

There was this dude who would bring his son in to work out, and I can tell he has done some powerlifting in the past because he does push some weight, but he had his kid doing sumo squats not to parallel with a lot of weight, and it just worries me that I'm gonna see this kid blow something out and I'm gonna have to call 911.
Have not seen them for awhile though. Hope they just found another gym and didn't end up with a serious injury.

...on a mission...
Interestingly enough, most people who actually do squats at my gym do a good job. Most just don't do them. Curls are the worst, IMO, since EVERYONE does them and most try to use too much weight. Other than that, I would have to say deadlifts. It's just hard to watch sometimes.

people definitely suck at lat pull downs
basically grab the bar with a close grip and bring it down to their stomach
-
Maui bound
How about when someone holds a DB in each hand at their sides while standing, then try to crunch their obliques with the same weight on both sides of their body.

Or they rock back so it is more of a row than a pull down.
Then use momentum to pull it back down again.
