I assume you are talking about the Inzer forever belts.
If you use the same setting for everything, get the lever belt. It's cheaper and easy to use.
I haven't used the ratchet belt, but if you like to use different setting on you belt for diferent lifts, then it might suit you well. However, it seems like it would be more delicate due to the ratchet.
Just my .02. Good luck.

The only bad thing about the lever belts I heard are trying to adjust them. You have to have a special tool in order to adjust it. I don't know if you like me but sometimes I am a size 38-40 and the next day I am a 40-42. And you need the belt to be very tight when squatting or the interadominal pressure isn't optimal, negating the purpose of the belt. I like my 13 mm forever lever double prong inzer belt. Not to mention if you plan to deadlift with the belt the tightness of the belt on deadlifts are definetly different then the tightness on squat.
But then again everyone's going to have their own opinion on what type of belt they prefer. When I was looking to buy a belt a few months back I asked around on this form for a couple weeks and the consesus seemed to be get the buckle belt not the lever belt.I rep back

All good monkey armed deadlifters use 13mm inzer forever lever belts

The special tool you need to adjust a lever belt is a flathead screwdriver... or a quarterTeam Super Awesome!

like I said each person is going to have their own preference.
I personally wouldn't like to have to bring a screw driver or a quarter with me put the belt on, take it off adjust it,put it back on to see if the adjustment I made is enough, take it off adjust it again etc. I like to be able to throw my belt on and tighten it depanding on the bloat I have going on that day lolI rep back

Ah, we seem to be a bit different in that regard, I've been on the same belt setting since my training weight was 175 pounds, and now its around 215 when I'm at the gym.

**** how did you manage that one. I admit I let my BF go over the last few months mainly because of the bulk I am doing. I plan on competing in powerlifting first and eventually doing Strongman down the road. I am bulking up to about 290 then I am going to cut to about 275 at around 9-10%. Because of this my belt adjustment changes from day to day.
But in a situation like yours peon it makes sense to use the lever belt.I rep back

yeah only thing i like about the pr belt is that you can adjust it lift to lift. the only time i wear an extra tight belt is on my heavy worksets of squats. imma take a leaf outta peonlovers book and do what the other monkey armed good deadlifters do. 13mm lever. and **** if i start getting problems and wanna use it for deadlifting too i'll just buy a second belt for each lift :P

ya Peon is definetly a veteran, plus I haven't used a lever belt myself I am just going by what I was told a few months back when I asked the same question. It's 6 in one and half dozen in another. It really depends on each person's individual preference. Like you said if the lever belt doesn't work out you can always get another one.

I'd like to try out a PR belt but way to much money for one. Lever belts are nice. But it all depends on how I'm lifting. In gear I found I like my belt tighter on both the squats and deadlift so the lever belt was a lot better for that. Lifting unequipped I like my belt a little looser for the squats and tighter for the deadlift. Also, I like to start out looser fit and get a bit tighter as the weights go up. So, the lever belt is not optimal for me. I like a single prong for adjustablility between lifts.
BTW, my lever requires a philips head and not a flat head so no coins available for me to adjust it. I have to use a screw driver.
Also, a belt is not just a belt. There are so many different styles, shapes, thicknesses, material types, material quality, and mechanics. Best belt I ever had was a Bob's belt for quality hands down. Inzer was probably the next best I've had for quality. Titan toro belt I have is nice but they don't seem to know how to measure 13mm right (somewhere between 10mm and 13mm). APT belt I have now too can't be beat for cost and stiffness. My Training Journal: http://tinyurl.com/jasons-journal

Try using your argument to the thousands of powerlifters that have used non lever belts over the past 30 years. Personally, I use a lever belt that I've had since 2005 and it is the only belt I use. I wasted money on a belt that I was only going to use for benching (I ended up using the lever belt anyway). My point is that a belt is a belt, whether you get a lever or prong one. As long as you dont buy one of those ****ty Atlas belts from Sports authority you ore good to go.

what you aren't getting is i have other belts and specifically need a lever or pr belt because i wanted something with quick and easy adjustability. i still plan to use my single prong powerbelt but plan to use a lever on lifts that are too difficult to get a pronged belt to the correct tightness by myself. so in this case a belt wasn't just a belt because the lever has a specific purpose for me.

Best bench belt I've found was suggested to me by Carpenter and Luyando which was a cheap $5-$10 leather carpenters belt at your local hardware store. Those cheap belts from sports authority are great for attaching a sled to and dragging it so you don't ruin your good belt.
