    Shin splints

I wasn't sure if this is the right section, but thought shin splints would be more of a sport injury.

Anyway, I've been fighting shin splints for the past month. I can't take breaks because I PT 3x a week with my school house (I'm a student in the Navy).

Today, I was running on the treadmill for endurance training, and now when I walk my shins are making a popping sound.

Have any of you guys heard of that?

Popping? Ahh doesn't sound good .... I would see a doctor. Usually for shin splints just deep tissue massage them .... hurts pretty bad but it makes them feel better.

    popping noise? see a doc.

my usualy prescription for low leg probs is ace wrap and ice. keep the wrap on from the ankle up to the knee and tape it down so it doesnt budge. only time to take it off is when u ice or shower. but sleeping, running, walking, sitting, whatever keep the wrap on. usually minor probs will go away in a few days but this sounds a little more severe. especially over a month period. could be stress fractures at this point which means no running for awhile.

Well, the popping stopped. I'll do some ice and wrap thing.

I really don't want to go to medical because they will put me LLD, and everyone will point and laugh. LMAO..just kidding.

I just hope we don't do our 6 mile run tomorrow, and then if I can just make 3 more PT sessions, I'll be good to go!

    Thanks, y'all!!!

^^this. Check out mizuno, they have a great line of shoes. i had shin splints throughout hs. eventually it turned into chronic compartment syndrome (somethin like that lol forgot the exact terminology). i took a year of from sprinting and altered my jogging style (on the balls of my feet) and no problems since. Running times now that qualify me for d1 indoor nationals in the 55.

very valid point. i bought a new pair of nike's a year ago for off season, and within a month had shin splints. i changed my shoes and they went away. so try some new shoes or padding on the inside to help.

Never heard of popping but thats usually not a good sign

I've dealt with shin splints in the past and the only solution is stretching and TONS of ice
