Well this was my goal since I got into powerlifting this year was to pull 700 raw in the 220 weight class. Yesterday I got it at the AAPF Illinois Raw Power Challenge. I went for 711 for my third lift and I really believe that I'm strong enough to do it but I was out of gas and let the bar get too far out in front of me and just couldn't lock it out. I got 567.5 squat without knee wraps which is a PR for me as well and got a 331 bench. Bench was not impressive I know, but I tore my pec last year and i'm being cautious with it... especially since it was really cold in the building we were lifting in and I didn't want to chance it. Unfortunately, Eric Lillibridge wasn't as fortunate as me and I think he tore his hamstring on his 3rd deadlift attempt with 810 lbs. Eric is a great guy and I got to talk to him quite a bit. He's a beast and will be a big name in powerlifting. I didn't realize it but he was actually up right next to me on 711 lbs rooting me on which was really cool of him. I hope he heals up quickly and is back on the platform soon.
lifts were:
Squat
1- 507
2- 551
3- 567.5
Bench
1-314
2-331
3-Pass
Deadlift
1-644
2-700
3-711 (no good)

yea I'm quite sure I'm strong enough for the 711, I think there were a few factors at work.
1. like you said; 700 was huge for me and so I had been visualizing it for so long... I had never visualized 711.
2. My set up was not good. i started with the bar too far away from my shins and by the time I got it corrected I had used too much energy & couldn't push my hips through
3. I was just so freakin' gassed out. I hate making excuses but since september there are only 2 weekends where I have not been traveling for business. And in between all that I had to put together my PhD exit seminar so physically, mentally, emotionally... I was gassed. Hard. I can hardly move today. Fortunately I am going on a 2 week vacation to puerto rico and it will be just what i need
I know I'll get it next time

Congratulations
Excellent work hitting 700 Layne.
The 568 lb raw Squat is real impressive as well.
I just did the USAPL Rhode Island meet, and the place was cold in spots. I'm sure you tried to stay warm between attempts. Yeah, I saw Eric in the video there, and it would have been better for him to stay in sweats and a hat as much as he could.

he said it would be 2 years post surgery before it would be as good as possible (it's been about 1.7 years since the surgery) but he said that "i'm not going to tell you you'll never tear it again, because there is always that possibility, but there is also a good possibility you could workout hard and heavy and never tear it again. Some things are out of your control. Just do everything you can to minimize the possibility"
