Dont worry so much about that. EAT RIGHT, gain a lot of muscle and strength which in turn will increase your metabolism so your body will need more calories as fuel. This will keep fat slowly burning. Just live the bodybuilding lifestyle ~ Rubicon

front squats because it's a compound free weight exercise. This is more than just my opinion, it's a fact.

    Apples or oranges
    Tomatoe or Potato

These things may look similar even spelled similar yet they are completely different things

Front squats are a compound movement working a whole lot of muscles
Leg extensions are an exercise for the quadricep, Great deal of debate whether they are detrimental to the knee joint.

    Stick with compound movements

    Front squats.
Leg extensions are great to warm-up, or to pre-exhaust, or to finish off a muscle.
But front squats would be the staple of your workout.(if back squats weren't included of course)

you can, but not really necessary.
I prefer to alternate and only do one of the two on leg day.
Do something like hack squats, sumo deads, leg press or something like that.

Front squats all the way. Why?

    a) Because it's compound, as many have already mentioned.
    b) It reinforces how to correctly and safely do back squats - the king of exercise.
    c) Front squats (as all compound exercises) produce functional strength, which is more critical and practical than doing isolation to "look buff." This statement is especially true if you are an athlete, or wish to be more "athletic."
    d) Doing front squats correctly is a prerequisite if you ever want to incorporate Olympic-style lifts in your training. If done correctly, clean and jerk and snatch are better for overall athleticism than doing squats or deadlifts alone. (Don't get me wrong, I am a squats and deadlifts fanatic.)
    e) There had been scientific studies that suggest doing isolation exercises (such as leg extension) could actually weaken the muscle.
    f) Unless you are a true bodybuilder in every sense of the word, isolation exercises are a waste of time for the rest of gym rats.

i feel that extensions target the lower part of my quads more, whereas squat target more on the hip areas.

Do squats first (back or front), and feel free to finish off with extensions.
