I have a bunch of 45's that my dad is giving me from our basement. They are the standard iron with grey paint. After being in our basement for the last 10 years or so, the cement floor and humidity have caused the paint to bubble and chip around the edges. I'm wondering if there's anything I can slip around the edges of the plates (think ipod case) to protect them from further wear. My searches have been less than fruitful.
thanks-

Do a search for "stall mats" here. They are very good at getting the metal plates off the concrete floor and protecting them from damage when lifting. So much so that all the gyms I ever have been in use them in the free weight areas. Any thing you could find to slip around the edges of the weights wont be as durable. Bumper plates have molded rubber and they get chewed up pretty bad if they are used on concrete surfaces too. There is a LOT of force generated when lifting and dropping weight. So the mats are tried and proven, plus they are not bad priced when you get them from your local farmers co-op.
