why not do a strict standing OHP instead of the push press
dont really see why people would want to do this for a mass building exercise unless youve got a ridiculously insane amount of weight youre pushing up there

idk i want to get my shoulders stronger so they can help me with lighter weight better form exercises. first time doing them in a while and i ended with 165x5 my last set, i know thats not much weight but if i do these every other week i think my strength will go up fairly fast. i need to get them stronger too they are weak.

when you get stronger you get bigger..... you serious? if you get stronger shoulders, you can do more weight, get more mass, and have good form on other lifts. its like cheat curls, it is bad form but you are still curling a **** load more weight than you usually do, making you stronger. ive heard ppl doing these and their weight on good form exercises have gone up too, more than if they kept to the same **** all the time.

i think maybe you should stick with trying to get your form down first and not worry about how to cheat and shortcut your progress.
seems to me youd benefit a lot more with good form since, as you stated, your shoulders are weak to begin with. better to start with a good solid base then to build a ****ty one

So far, almost every comment could have been done without. The exception being where someone made helpful and friendly recomendations.
The problem with asking any kind of question on BB.com, is that everyone acts like they are some sort of pro. Just because you asked a question and someone answers, doesnt mean you need to take their word for it.
Anyway, I think that the first dude was right. Military press is an overall great shoulder building workout. I understand where you are comming from trying to increase the weight. It makes sense, but there are a number of ways to shock those shoulder muscles once in a while. Try doing 'negatives only' once in a while, but be extremely careful. One of the most dangerous positions for your shoulders is when your arms are raised above your head like that. You DONT want to tear your rotator.
Get a GREAT spotter, and try those negatives every 3-4 weeks or so. Other than that, just lift heavy and keep lifting heavy, with GREAT form.

ok for you idiots that negged me, how the **** does doing push press cheat and shortcut your progress first of all? just because it uses legs doesnt mean it doesnt give your shoulders a good workout and helps you get stronger. so basically what you are saying is that squats arent as good for your quads as leg extensions because you are not completely isolating them... like you are saying i should do with my shoulders.
check out this topic http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=741121
i dont even use much legs at all. and how would doing more weight not make you as strong as using lighter weight? sorry guys but this doesnt make sense to me and you can just look it up. push press gives you better overall strength gains than just standing military. so come up with something to say to that... please. im just proving my points. fuzz you didnt prove anything by what you said, maybe if you show me some proof that standing military strengthens your shoulders more than push press and ill stfu.

You asked for advice on Push Press or Face Pulls. I suggested that you try strict standing OHP because you had mentioned that your shoulders are weak.
This would help you to develop your shoulder strength as well as put mass onto your shoulders. Why did i suggest strict standing OHP rather than Push Press? Because youre not going to be using your legs to drive up the weight. It would be much more impressive and beneficial for you to just do the OHP. Take away the legs and put all of the focus on your shoulders.
I then suggested that you should try using strict form because you were referencing how people do "cheat curls" in order to get stronger. Well, shoulders arent biceps (obviously) and are extremely easy to injure. So, without proper form, youre going to injure yourself quickly.
It makes you dumb because of your reasoning. You ask for advice, yet criticize me for giving you some. Youre asking for shoulder advice, you were given advice and yet you disregard it because you have a narrow-minded view on what they proper way to strengthen your shoulders is.
Sorry, but have you seen my shoulder routine? Have you seen my routines in general? What makes you so certain that i dont know what im talking about?
I started when i was almost 20, i wish i had started around your age, but your using my age as the reason my shoulders are bigger?
No, im bigger because i listen to advice from people. Ive done my homework, and ive been putting in my time. I dont go around believing that im big, im always looking for someone to give me some more knowledge thatll help me down the road. I look at my progress pics and see how far ive come, what mistakes ive done and what ive learned from them and i try and pass this on to people that want to and are willing to learn.
You, on the other hand, act like youre gods gift to this forum. Obviously whatever you say must be right, because, Hey, you're 5'9 202lbs.
Heres a little wake up call, youre 5'9 202lbs of fluff. Youre not big. Learn to pose and start using regular lighting when taking your pics. That lighting is just giving you a false reality of what you really look like. Start filling that head of yours with knowledge and start listening to people that are trying to give you helpful advice instead of challenging them.
Sorry if i didnt address everything and for the grammatical errors.
***edit: thanks for the neg & comment "you gave me wrong advice.. so negged".
