Do you really think it would have made any real difference if he used someone's text book ROM?

maybe emphasizing the negative of the movement...seems like it would do some good to resist the weight on the way down with your front delt
Yorkshireman I: Right! I had to get up in the morning, at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill and pay mill-owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our dad would kill us and dance about on our graves, singing Hallelujah!

I had always heard going past that point was bad on your rotator cuff, but I guess that was wrong.

Going past shoulder height engages the lower trap as well on both front and side lateralls that is why it is done that way. By going over shoulder height your lower traps comes into play adding to its development. That is why Arnold and others do them that way. Sorry I don't have the reference off the top of my head but I will try and find it or you can just have a spouse press on your lower trap while you do front or side lats and ask them if they feel the contraction.

Not really bad on the rotator but behind the neck presses are the devil when it comes to rotator cuffs. For me personally so is upright rows.

I go up high a lot of the time on side lat raises and front raises. There is no set rule about how high to go. Not to me anyways.

It was not a ROM issue he did it on purpose said it activated his lower traps adding to the development of a very hard to develop muscle.
