Should you eat every 3 hours or just eat when your body tells you its hungry?

Should you listen to your body and only eat when you are actually hungry?

I am talkin about during a cut, for the record.

Personally, i dont think either is the best.

I think you should eat whenever it is most convenient for you to eat.

6 meals per day is good for roid heads who are bulking and need 5 million calories per day. But on a cut or maintenence for the average person, it is over kill and a pain in the ass.

As for eating when you are hungry, what we call hunger isnt really hunger. Its just ghrelin and psychological factors so its not really the best gauge of things.

Base your diet around your work, rest and play.

Not sure where it was or how true it is but I read that the "eating every 3 hours boosts your metabolism" is a myth. But...I don't know about you but eating a little every few hours keeps my appetite down. So for me it helps.

if you spread your meals correctly, you will be hungry every 2 to 3 hours. 400-500 cals does it for me.

I eat every two to three hours. Gotta get that protein in you and the body can only absord 30 grams at a time.

Arnie's book- he says 2 to 3 hours.

I also had a very successful bodybuilding acquaintance a few years ago and he said the same.

It works for me so I figure they must be correct.

A little FYI too- the body can only utilize most of the protein in food, not all. Thus, one should eat a little extra in point of fact. I will scan the chart I have with the specific amounts and post here as I think it could be helpful.

    myth

its probably from the supplement companies who happen to put 30 grams of protein in each scoop of whey.

Please provide something to support that as I am open to other theories and opinions.:-)

As for Arnie, you might want to read his book. You just might see he knows a thing or two. I am not saying his way is the only way of course but give the man some credit.

Well, I have done a quick search on it just now and I heard many schools of thought on it. I think it's one of those things that everyone has a theory on. Half the people agree with you- and half agree with me.

I can live with that. Hey, whatever works right?

And I may be wrong but that's how we learn in life. I shall study up on it more.

    Cool

i've been really fortunate to lose almost 150 lbs eating only when i was hungry.

my body/hunger hormones seemed to have adapted EPICLY during the transformation process.

however, during my period, i can eat the whole entire house down (serious) & seem to still make progress, despite binging once a month during this "special" time. lucky us, eh? women have it harder. xD

edit: yes. i'm pretty sure it's been almost 150 lbs. i must've been 300'ish in dec of '06 & should be close to 150 now; haven't weighed myself since i was 15, though. but i can't be more than 175. =S

For the average guy losing fat, 99% of bodybuilding "science" is a waste of time.

And yeah, arnie was on roids, was that mentioned in his book?

    A great deal.

i cant take an encyclopedia of body building seriously if it doesnt caontain one sentence of anabolic steroids.

Arnie would be a labourer without roids.

Obviously. But trying to apply bodybuilding diets and routines for roid users when not on roids is a waste of time.

Roids make a huge difference to your bodies chemistry, the average guy on good diet and training will look like a bricklayer or a road worker and doesnt need to count every macro, micro ph level acidity bs....

Roids are only a part of it. They still have to know their stuff as far as diet and training goes.

I know. But like i said, an average guy is trying to lose fat and add a little lean mass and he can do both of those things without bodybuilding biochemists.

    UUummm , NO....

The main thing AAS will do is increase protein synthesis. The diet itself should still be a higher caloric / higher protein diet for making muscle gains.
The other thing that AAS will do is increase anti catabolic activity. So a lower caloric diet won't necessarily cause a loss is muscle size or strength.

But even in those cases gains are slowed....

It still take a good diet and solid training to make gains either way.

I still say in life people should always do something all the way. That mean, properly educating yourself on whatever it is you attempt. You get what you put in. I think anyone who does this should go as far as they can with it as it is the best thing on earth you can do.

All most people need is a deficit and some exercise.

And no, you wont look like arnold.

You'll look like a farmer who doesnt read **** about protein synthesis and egg micros.
