Shrink in height from gaining mass

Can gaining weight and muscle cause you to shrink over time? I hope not.

Why has this guy become shorter? - http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/trans10.htm

wow he lost 4 inches how the hell did that happen? i think that shrinking is just a myth. It might've been something that guy took that made him shorter.

It's kinda hard to measure yourself, depends on how you keep the head and the back.
I measured myself just today, and I saw I'm like half centimeter (that's 0.196 inches) less than what I thought.

    My speculation:

Assuming I always measured myself correctly and in the same way, I have a theory to explain a shrink of such a small lenght: as I was slim as a toothpick (I still am, I mean I was even worse) I might have had a slight lordosis posture. Having put muscles in the lower back, my spine is more straight.
That should lead to a shrink in height because with the lower back straight the cervical vertebrae are more/better aligned.

Just try it yourself: sit on the edge of your chair with your back straight. Now try to stick your belly button forward (about 1 inch). This should cause your eyes to get higher a little bit.

Please try it and tell me if it happens to you as well.

You get shorter naturally as you age which I do not beleive has anything to do with weight. The only time it may effect you in a minor way is if you are doing alot of standing due to the compression of your vertebrae. However proper sleep will get you back in line.

I would be amazed if the loss was attributed to weight lifting.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

I find his story to be incredible if it's true. I just looked through his bio, and it said he went from 129 to 177 in 12 weeks. That's 4 pounds a week. Immediately following, he lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks. Absolutely incredible, and major props to him for his transformation.

He probably measured himself in space, where the zero gravity environment causes the bones to separate a bit and adds a few inches in height.
Then after returning to earth and working out, he measured himself and he got shorter.

My only other explanation is that he frequently wears a pair of high heeled pumps.

Maybe it's a typo? If it was the direct result of exercising, that's suckish. I personally would rather be over 6' and scrawny than be under 6' and built. People over 6' make more money and get more dates, and can reach stuff on high shelves. Tallness is where it's at!
