Is there such a thing as over training really?
well i have ALOT of extra time lately due to unforsecene circumstances.... and i really want to start building my weight back up fast as possible. If i lifted weights EVERYDAY, like 3 exercises each day obviously overlapping different groups would this hinder me?

Lift till your hearts content, if you keep getting stronger/gaining mass, **** what people say about overtraining.
Once you stop seeing gains or even possibly losing strength/mass, you have to reconsider your routine/frequency.
Lift away. You will know when you are overtraining.

Just remember that your muscles grow while resting not while working out so yes you can overtrain. You have to find what works best for you. Some people gain best working out only 4 days a week others its best if they work out 7 days.

Yes. When you start injuring sh it. So far this week: small tear to left tricep, strained hamstrings, small tear to one of the hip adductors (lol i dunno the name), shoulders threatening to tear. Feels bad man.

It's not just about training. It's about recovering. You want the biggest gains don't only focus on training as much as possible, focus on your nutrition and rest equally.

if over training didnt exist, we would all be in the gym every day doing full body routines for hours on end.

lol... over training certainly does exist...
your muscles don't grow while you're pumping iron in the gym, then grow while you're at home eating and resting

it depends
its better to do more then to do less
however u cannot do different body parts on the same day thats more like over training
u can over train a body part as long as u give it enough days to recover other wise u will never let ur muscle recover and u wont grow

Broscience alert: I think I read that overtraining may be more of an effect that muscle flexion has on the central nervous system rather than the actual muscle/muscle group(s). Therefore typical overtraining is CNS related. I'm not 100% sure on that, but really the rule breaks down to this:
You should be lifting heavy enough where you couldn't do such a retarded split like the one you mentioned [no hate]. Your muscle groups or full body (if you choose a split of that type--recommend full or 1/2 split btw) should be significantly fatigued (doesn't necessitate soreness) but any further sets should be severely impaired if not impossible. Depending on how far along you are, something like Rippetoe's or a 1/2 body split is most likely the most effective.
