Conventional Deadlifter going to switch to Sumo

Been deadlifting for about 5 years nowgoing with my best lift being 535. I am going to be switching to sumo here shortly as i feel i will be stronger. Do you guys have an opinion on this, do you feel one is better than the other? Conventional has really taken its toll on my lower back as i am constantly in pain, feel alot more comfortable going sumo, although have never went more than 315.

Never done them other than messing around with some light weight while i was warming up. I think that guys with a really strong squat would be more likely to put up pr's with sumo style dl's though.

Are you a strong wide stance squatter?

Sumo isn't always better. Why do you want to switch?

FYI- we were taught that if you go sumo, it should be the same width as your squat.

I swapped it around and that's when i first started getting some decent PR's after stalling with conventional for a while. Having not trained conv. for a good 3 years and only going back recently to get my lower back stronger I increased my conv dead by about 80 lbs as well. If you are built for it, or even just more comfortable with pulling sumo, its a great switch to make. I do wish I had been pulling conventional more though, now I do higher rep rack pulls conv stance and sumo pull every 4th week from the floor.
