Saw this preview when I went to see Boondock Saints 2 today... looks like the coolest movie of the year... can't wait to see it.

When I first saw the trailer, I thought it was somehow related to "Avatar: The Last Airbender," and I was confused as h*ll. Haha. But I think the CGI looks mediocre.

Eh - first 30-45 was cool and then the movie just dragged and became exceptionally predictable, repetitive and seemed like it was searching for a reason to keep it running for a full 2 hours... tell you what the redhead southern milf who replaces Smecker...
Would hit. Again, and again, and again, and again.
And again, times infinity.

I thought this thing was directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Probably what I get for thinking. My personal opinion: That guy is a failure. This story would be somewhat difficult to botch, though...
honestly, it doesnt look like anything special. i saw the preview in theaters a while back, and i was underwhelmed then and that hasnt changed. im sure it will be entertaining, but not really looking forward to it.
and i have no idea what the guy above me is talking about.

Storyline is very standard planetary romance science fiction and the aliens strike me as a particularly unsubtle metaphor, more or less as the aliens in District 9 also did. I see a lot of similarities to the Ender's Game book as well. I'm sure I will eventually see this, but it is far from high on my priority list...

this movie has been years in the making. it has been his project for a long time. perhaps that is why i think so little of it. from the preview the story seems to be disabled guy is chosen to infiltrate the aliens and given a chance to be one of them/get his abilities back. comes to know and love the aliens, helps them fight against the invading human force.

I could point out quite a number of "parallels" between this and Ender's Game, but it seems pretty clear that it is intended to be more metaphoric to the history of planet earth, possibly, in fact, the same metaphor that District 9 used. I saw it as uncivilized savages (alien or otherwise) sitting on a bunch of precious something, such as diamonds, for instance, worth a pile of money, of which the savages don't recognize the worth and someone else does recognizes and wants it and blah blah blah soldier more literally puts himself in the point of view of the savages and finds out they're noble and worthy of blah blah blah and everything changes and then that person maybe falls in love with one or all of them and then becomes their savior, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseam. 12 years obviously did not go into storyline, since it is incredibly pedestrian or is seemingly so. Maybe it is a fable and there's going to be a great moral at the end of the story. That would be novel. No one has ever done anything else like that, either...
I'm rooting for this to tank, but given that people eat up schmaltzy over-sentimentalized pap like Titanic, it will probably make a bundle and I will further lose faith in humanity...
