Ran out of time :(
I just gave my ACE exam yesterday and could only answer 130 questions out of the total 150 questions since I ran out of time. I dint get a chance to read the remaining questions or even make a guess :/ .. There were no clocks in the examination hall and I did not carry a watch too. The invigilator did mention the time when there was an hour left. But it was too late for me to catch up. I got nobody but myself to blame for this. This was my first attempt too.
This sucks. Especially, when you run out time after prepping so hard for the exam :/
Anyhow, what are the chances of me making it through the exam? I think i've performed quite ok answering 130 questions, and did a pretty decent job on the simulation. What are your thoughts?

Now that you've been through the test, you know how it goes. You just will need to pace yourself next time. Just try not to over-read the questions, that's where many people get stuck.
It might be a good idea to go onto their site and order the practice-test and try to time yourself.
Also, try to get scheduled at a computer based testing site. There is a clock built into the program which can help you. Just tell ACE support that you had problems with the last testing site (no clocks, proctor did not tell time...) and they most likely will give you a discount to change testing formats.
Good luck to you.

Yup, that's where I went wrong. I kept re-reading the questions :/.. I could narrow down the answers to 2 options and it took me quite some time to figure out the correct one. Lesson well learnt I guess.
Results for the test takes about 6 weeks. I don't know how their scoring system works, so i'm just hoping for the best.
Thanks man.

Yeah, thats another reason to set up to take the computer based test, you get the results right afterwards... no waiting around.
Their scoring system is varied and you will get a read out after the test is scored.

I'm not from the U.S, so the computer based test is out of question. Anyways, let's hope I make it through

man, thats crazy, i am going to be taking the ACE exam on Dec 5th. Going to take that practice exam online to get a better feel for the questions, i hope this helps. I am just having trouble studying all the material, trying to figure out all those formulas for HR and blood pressure and everything else, just overwhelming amount of info. Any advice??

Yeah the practice online exam definitely helps I guess. I did not take it though :/ .But you will surely get the feel of how the questions are gonna look like.
Don't worry too much about the formulas and such. Just learn the basic one's ie Karvonen, Bmi, v02max, body fat% conversions and such. Just simple math, nothing complex. Don't bother with the formulas involving the Ross treadmill test etc. I had like 3 questions involving math, out of the 150. Have you taken the free sample test on all the chapters which is found on the ACE website? I'd recommend you to take that.
We had a lot of questions on Nutrition/postures/planes of motion etc. Hardly any recall questions, most of them were 'application' type. And keep an eye on the clock, you should take around 72 secs per question approx. I do have a sample paper of 60 questions with me, if you want it lemme know ill upload it for ya.
The written simulation was kinda easy. I got a 14 yr old Cheerleader for the first case, and for the 2nd one I got a Mom /w her 12 yr old son, both obese and wanting to compete in a 5k in 16 weeks lulz. Here's a link for the sample simulation paper from their website - http://www.acefitness.org/getcertified/writtensim.aspx#
If you're confused with a question, just move on. Don't make the mistake I did on re-reading the same question over and over. Just keep an eye on the clock and you're good to go. Good luck bro.

My written simulation was an older man who was completely out of shape and a crazy pregnant woman wanting to work out and stay thin throughout her pregnancy and afterwards... The Pregnancy one was annoying barely kept within what the ACE manual talked about. I tried to be conservative and just have her doing lighter less stressful workouts in the 2nd-3rd trimester and kept getting "she is not happy, but will try." (which counts as null points).

wow guys, that was all great info, and yeah, if you could post up that 60 question practice that'd be awesome of you! I feel comfortable with nutrition and the exercises, but i feel like i should study more with the planes of motion, the levers, and just the important formulas mentioned before. So for the written portion, they just usually chose a scenario that you have to write out an explanation of how you would work them out and why you wrote that exercise program for them according to their needs??
i just had to add i have a few questions regarding the BMI figures. the book says to convert weight from pounds to kilograms by dividing by 2.2 then to convert height from inches to centimeters to meters by multiplying by 2.54 then dividing by 100...sounds like to much math to be doing on a timed test for one answer, plus without a calculator allowed sounds bogus to me. Anyways, i found another source saying to find the BMI just divide the weight by the height in inches and pounds and multiply by 703..anyone heard about doing it that way?? I guess i am just trying to figure out the easiest and quickest, most accurate way to figure this out for the exam.

Here's the bmi formulas, pretty easy to remember. Don't worry about it too much, I don't recall ever using it on the test (they did tell the bmi of a subject, but it was irrelevant to the question...)
BMI (English) = (Weight x 704) / (Height x Height) = x
BMI (Metric) = (Weight x 10000) / (Height x Height) = x
Underweight BMI less than 18.5
Healthy weight BMI 18.5 to 24.9
Overweight BMI 25 to 29.9
Obese BMI 30 to 39.9

thanks man, that makes it easier then how the book explained it, especially since i need something easy to figure out since calculators arent allowed, which is lame. Except after all that math is done your left with numbers like 192847, haha so i mean during a timed test who the hell wants to figure out all that?!?! Anyways, i went on the ACE site to see an example of the written scenarios, and they explained it weird to, talking about some weird paper and a pen you use to uncover the correct answer or something?? i mean wtf??

I too was worried about the math on the test (I am weak in math). Don't let it worry you though, there are very few in depth math questions on the test.
