Australian accent: how dat happen?
Alright so British people were sent there through penal transportation (no homo). How did the English accent change into an Australian accent? It obviously didn't mix with the native language there, it's still English. wtf man?

Actually, the native language(s) brought about quite a bit of Aussie slang. The weather is damned hot, and I don't think people could be arsed pronouncing words.

Americans think there are only two accents in the UK, cockney and the stereotypical Posh accent.

It's pretty much the same, go back 400 years and we're all speaking gibberish.

As I understand it, our accent is what happens when you put a whole lot of Irish and Cockney English folk together at the end of the world and then leave them there for 200 years.

Wiki says there's a solid Cockney influence in Aussie English, I'm gonna assume in the accent too.
I wanna know how the accents in the US came up. That's a more random variation IMO.

I think it has something to do with groups of people who settle amongst each other for a long period of time tend develope their own accent since the history of time.

californian (mostly what you hear in movies)
southern (long and slow pronounciation of word. southern places e.g texas, alabama)
new york (e.g hey ess - ho, move yoour caar im tryna get a cup of cawfee)

There was a show on it on the ABC once. There are 3 types of Australian accent, there was the refined one, normal and broad one. I reckon the wogs have there own accent as well. Anyway I remember them saying theat cockney wasnt actually a signiifcant factor. I cant really remember the exact details of the show.
Ive heard that it was because of all the flies they were forced to talk out of the corner of their mouth. I think that ones a bit of a myth but Ive seen it in the country.

you will notice that accents in the free settlement cities sound more British than in the convict cities

For the record, Texas is all over the place. A lot of people from Houston and Austin under the age of 40 have a neutral American accent. You can probably lump almost everyone from Dallas into that "southern accent" category though.

Dunno brah. Though when I went to America 80% of people couldn't tell if I was English or Australian. They would always ask which one I was. I have a very deep aussie accent (ftw).
You'd think it was a give away because my Dad speaks like the stereotypical aussie down to a tee.
