to those who eat peanut butter...
hey guys,
quick question about peanut butter. i know natural PB is what most people use on here, but is there any real "bad" things about regular PB, the stuff with hydrogenated oils and a small amount of added sugars. im not scared of the sugars but i dont know anything about hydrogenated oils and if they + the extra process take away from the healthy fat profile of peaqnut butter. dont bust my balls about being anal, sometimes i run out of natty and only have Skippy and im just curious if theres any major disadvantage.

Hydrogenated oils are no good. Stick with the natural, if you are only using regular for short period of time because you ran out of natty then it's no big deal but I wouldn't eat it over the long term.

Trans fats and all the extra sugars aren't good for you. If you have to eat it then you gotta do what you gotta do, but if you can have a healthier version then I would do that.

Yah, I'm not sure how much of an impact it'd make, but the trans fat will hurt cholesterol levels and just health in general. But the natty stuff just tastes better, so the only option is clear.
And those JIF commercials about "choosey moms choose JIF" always piss me off. No, ignorant ones do.
But before I knew of natty PB and became a member here, Crunchy JIF was my jar.

The fat from peanuts is sough after. Regular peanut butter adds additional oils to the mix to create the texture and taste.
All natural only has those sought after healthy fats from the natty PB. Glad to hear you are sticking with the natty...

My understanding is that YES, PB contains 'some' hydrogenated oils and YES hydrogenated oils are not good for you....but the amount in PB is so small (<<1%) that it's not a concern unless you eat a ton of the stuff. Since it's so high in calories, most people don't eat enough for it to be a real concern. I liken it to mercury in tuna....yes it's in there and it's not good, but not a problem unless you go overboard and eat 2-3 cans a day.
So people on cuts that take a tbs or so a day there's nothing to worry about. But if your bulking and downing jar a day, better stick to the natty stuff. Personally, I eat a bit of both, depending what I'm in the mood for since they taste so different.
