    Spiking insulin levels?

Okay so I have been on the keto diet for a while, with mainly a lot of eggs and MGN protein powder, spinach and almonds and when I can chicken.

I was reading the ingredients on the back of a new flavor of almonds and saw that it contained malodextrin, and I thought that was a no-no(because it throws you out of keto but I was not sure) so I searched the keto forum and saw that I should take malodextrin after an intense workout to spike insulin levels, and I was just curious why would I do this?

I usually have my almonds before working out because they are the highest thing in carbs that I eat, is that wrong is there something I should eat before working out instead?

    Thanks

    almonds before workout are fine
Some people will take 10-15 grams of dextrose or maltodextrin with their protein shake post workout to raise insulin levels. The raised insulin levels will reverse the catabolic state and put your body in an anabolic state. That's the idea behind raising insulin levels post-workout

I've read that dextrose is preferred to maltodextrin because maltodextrin is more likely to be stored as fat.

    Is this correct?

They're both sugars. Dextrose = Pure table sugar. Maltodextrin = Non nutrative sweetner. They both spike insulin (though not to the same degree), but malto doesn't have cals.

What do you mean malto doesn't have calories? Maltodextrin is just weakly chained dextrose molecules. When you consume it, the chains quickly break and then there's just dextrose left. Maltodextrin digests a little slower than dextrose but not much since the chains are weak. Maltodextrin, like any other carb, has 4 cal per gram and is very high glycemic. Also, it is not sweet at all.

Dextrose is D-(+)-glucose, a monosaccharide. I'm pretty sure it's named dextrose after dextrorotatory glucose, and not named after its similarity to glyceraldehyde. Levorotatory L-(-)-glucose is rarely found in nature, if ever. It cannot be metabolized by us, and is not biologically active. Maltodextrin, as said already, is a chain of at least 3 and up to 20 dextroses.

Table sugar (sucrose, not sucralose) is glucose + fructose, a disaccharide.

Edit: jaim are you high because from what i've read it's likely

I wouldn't say that. The Maltodextrin in crystal light is used for filler so it's a negligable amount. I'd be more worried about the aspartame.

As long as you dont drink crystal light all day you will be okay . Artificial sweeteners have been known to trigger insulin release in some people so yes it could cause stalls .
I always water mine down more-so its barely sweet ..

plus the Lemon flavored drink mixes are AWESOME to flavor up a simple cream cheese desert :-)
lil vanilla , tbsp or two of cream and a pack of splenda per 2 ounces of cc .. yummy !

Don't blame the malto in your crystal light for your diet failure.

Thanks for the insult, speaks volumes that you can't take the truth. Do you insult your boyfriend/husband when he tells you the truth as well?

There is not enough of anything in crystal light to destroy anything but thirst so don't start blaming it for anything related to not losing weight.

If you are not losing weight then you are eating too much or not doign enough cardio. A small packet of drink mix will NEVER be the deciding factor.

I think it's really subject to each individual. Basically everything has SOME insulin response although it can be pretty small.
Mostly I'm a water and black coffee guy, but I occasionally drink coke zero (or other stuff) without problem.
