I would rather have a house in that second pic than in the Jetsons.

Me and a wildphucker have both been trying to get one for ages, even had a few polls going for a science section. Apperently the admins don't want one though
Still we have the formal debate forum with it's entire 12 threads, great idea that was lol

In general relativity, a black hole is a region of space in which the gravitational field is so powerful that nothing, not even light, can escape.
Lensing by a black hole. Animated simulation of gravitational lensing caused by a Schwarzschild black hole going past a background galaxy. A secondary image of the galaxy can be seen within the black hole Einstein ring on the opposite direction of that of the galaxy. The secondary image grows (remaining within the Einstein ring) as the primary image approaches the black hole. The surface brightness of the two images remain constant, but their angular size vary, hence producing an amplification of the galaxy luminosity as seen from a distant observer. The maximum amplification occurs when the background galaxy (or in the present case a bright part of it) is exactly behind the black hole.

There are too many good threads about science that get lost in the the high activity of the general misc.
I have seen requests for this sub forum many times why has it not happened yet????
Strong frustration over this.

Anyone with a cool $4 million and change might consider doing what 43 other people have done, and sign up for an orbital space vacation in 2012 with Galactic Suite Space Resort. The Barcelona-based company plans to open the first space hotel if all goes according to plan.
Space customers would spend three nights in their orbital pod room, where they could crawl around like Spiderman (or Venom) in Velcro suits. Reuters reports that guests would also enjoy an eight-week training course set on a tropical island.

Wtf is all this? false colour nebulas and CGI space stations?
Here is some real science!
Map of the observable universe - each dot is a galaxy in space
Light bending due to mass of eclipsing galaxy cluster. Te five bright dots are images of the same distant quasar. Note the galaxy the quasars are in is rotated in each image around the axis.
pollen grains, resolved using an electron microscope:
here are anticrepuscular rays- the sun is directly behind the photographer, and the light rays emerging from it are shadowed by the clouds above him, and converge at an point on the opposite side of the sky.

Calling out for mod support.
I have noticed alot of mods get in on these science threads, you guys seem to enjoy them too.
Help us out, if you can.
This thread and the many others show good reason for a science section.

Sub forum. It's a too broad of a topic for a sticky and it's hard to pick out an intelligent topic mixed in with "What does an a-hole taste like" and "Look at the interior of my new Lambo" threads.

if you didn't notice there are trees in that first one, it would make sense to have a forest on board to recycle some co2, no reason they couldn't set up an entire ecosystem like on earth

Sub-forum could also include topics like video games and consoles and software help with computers. With the new operating system coming out it could be a big help to the misc subforums.

Definitely needed.
If we have a WWE forum we should have a science and philosophy forum. There are too many ms paint dick and poo threads and other crap for a good topic to be taken seriously in the misc.
