editing my first video... need help! 12k+

editing my first video, its a training video for a contest and i have dozens of clips i'm putting together to make a big montage

i'm using windows movie maker

problem i'm having is that when i add my 4:27 song to the audio/music timeline, its showing up at 8:30... the song isnt double over, its repeating itself at certain times, almost like the song is corrupted. But i downlaoded the song from amazon so i know its legit, and it plays at 4:27 on my other media players...

any help?

This is a common glitch. What you wanna do is trim the '8mins' down to the actual length of the song (4:27). When you produce the video it should play as normal.

*edit* what i mean by this, is in the timeline for the audio part where you've added the song in windows movie maker, go to 4mins 27, then (making sure you've got audio portion selected by left clicking on it), you split the clip, and delete the right hand side of it (the part of the audio in the timeline that goes after 4mins 27.)

Sorry if I explained that badly, its 3am here lol. If anything I said is not clear, just say so .

i tried it, the into is all messed up --- its kid rocks bawitadaba and i need the intro to be perfect because thats how i timed the first 65 seconds of my intro

If you are using the first 65 seconds of the song, just trim the song to only 65 seconds im the timeline in windows movie maker. Don't worry if it's messed up in the preview. When you go to 'produce' the movie (what you do after you've finished editing), it will sort itself out if you've trimmed / cut it to play the part you want (even if it dosen't seem to work in the preview).

no what u said made sense, and i did it... but the song is still distorted and out of wack. I noticed that the songs sound levels are not accurately displayed visually in the audio/music timeline

i am gonna try a different song and see what happens

Download Sony Vegas, I think it works great compared to other editing programs.

hmmm so it worked for one song, and then didnt work for another song... i think i'll just do ALL the video stuff first and then worry about the songs second... i'll keep this thread up in case i need to bump with more questions, and i'm on spread now but i'll be reppin everyone
