I know it works (based on everything I've read here) but I don't quite understand how. If you are on a caloric deficit, it is generally assumed that muscle gain will be minimal to non-existent. So how does lifting help retain muscle on a cut? Doesn't the act of lifting destroy muscle fibers that in turn require nutrients to repair? Why then is lifting on a cut better than doing only cardio? (I know it is...just looking for a scientific explanation)
