pre cardio nutrition

ive been doing 4 days of cardio, 2 days are 20min of either stepmill or airdyne bike. those days are done right after lifting.

the other two days (weekends) i jog for about 30min in the morning ( i dont lift on weekends). ive been taking in ~30-35g whey protein and an apple approx 20min before i begin my jog. is that enough? too much?

goals:

lose bf%, maintain muscle (duh), not looking to "cut" or shred for competition or anything like that.

thanks

Sounds like yr just doing cardio and that doesnt always burn fat...it burns fat when done at a high intensity...sounds like yr just working yr cardio vascular fitness...no need to take protein before a run best taken after when yr muscles need it more..you want to burn fat up the intensity of yr cardio or do yr jogs on a empty stomach...
Im sure someone could of gave you this advice but didnt..this site is pretty overrated i get more feedback from google lol

if you want to eat something pre cardio...or pre workout for that matter it is fine. just make sure it is mostly if not all protien. if carbohydrates are taken in, it causes the body to produce insulin. insulin promotes lipogenesis (fat storage/production) and inhibits lipolisis (fat release/burn). day walker would be correct in telling you to do your cardio in the am on an empty stomach but if you ate a quick digesting protien such as whey or egg 45-30 minutes proir you would be fine.

not saying carbs should be avoided all together they are essential to progressing in both muscle gains and fat loss but avoid them pre workout/cardio so you can hit the workout/cardio with optimal fat burn.

good luck,
phil

the effect protien and lipids for that matter on insulin levels is marginal. do they increase insulin out put.....yes. but the degree to which they do is negligible.

Pennyw1se is on a distinguished road. (+10)
You really shouldnt eat before a workout. You dont want your body digesting food and at the same time dealing with the stress you put on it when you work out. If you do eat, make sure its in liquid form.

just keep playing around with it till you find what works for you,

me i usually have half a scoop of whey+BCAA's 30-40 min preworkout and just BCAA's pre cardio. this seems to work best for me. but i also get my training done 1st thing in am. makes it a little easier to go train on an empty stomach. IMO anyways.
