    How much does a human skeleton weigh?

    just looking for rough numbers here... the skeleton weight for a grown man

    anyone have any idea?

    Around 13% - 14% of bodyweight .. So a i'd have like 26 - 30 lbs. Kinda crazy. You'd think they'd weigh alot more. Aren't they like ten times as strong as steel for there weight?

    For the weight I guess. Steel bends, bone breaks, either way things are ****ed up.

    If your skeleton was steel and it weighed the same as your current one, your bones would be a lot thinner, and therefore weaker.

    you'd be surprised. A human femur bone is pretty ****ing strong. It needs hundreds, even over [nine] thousand, of pounds before breaking. Pound for pound a human femur may be as strong as steel. Its like how a string of spider's silk is stronger than a piece of the same weight of steel.

    The reason bones are much lighter than you would think is because a bone isn't made up completely of compact bone. An adult long bone, like you femur for instance, is composed mostly of a type of bone called "spongy bone". It's more porous than compact bone, which in turn makes it lighter.
