would be great fight, both have great ground games, if nog were a few years younger he might have had this fight no problem, but i think it will be more competitive than that

That will be a fun fight to watch. I hope it's true... as it does make sense. It will be interesting what kind of gameplan Cain will use coming into it. Because I don't see his GnP working as effectively against Nog as his last two opponents.

Serious? Most people around here have been bitching just the opposite about title matchups...

He wants to fight again while he's still reasonably close to his fighting weight?

Sounds like a great fight. How is Cains sub defense?
I'm not sold on Nogs striking. It has been unimpressive in the UFC thus far except for the Randy fight. It's interesting though, the shots Nog hit Randy with weren't that hard but it did land in the same spot as Lesnar's glancing cross right behind the ear which also dropped him. It's a bad spot but Randy doesn't take getting hit there well at all.
Randy is one of the best wrestlers in the UFC and looked bad on the ground with Nog. Cain may try to test the waters there, but I think this will be mostly a standup battle which I wouldn't give Nog a necessarily huge advantage.

it's so easy to predict how this fight will go;
Cain take Nog down, he try to pass guard for about 15s then Nog submit him
OR Cain doesn't try to take him down and Nog beat him in striking =)
I really hope that after he beat Cain he will get title shoot.
Nog has always been poison for wrestlers and right now ufc TOP HW's are all wrestlers.
edit: em second thing, Cain wasn't able to finish Kongo ON the ground so I REALLY don't see him finishing Big Nog.

Cain does NO damage with his GnP, and someone like Nog, especially, will be able to absorb that while working for a sub.

I'm not 100% sold on Cain, but this is a completely ridiculous statement, man...

i agree. I think Cain has certain aspects of his standup that are very vulnerable. But his wrestling & GNP is vicious

I really don't think it's vicious enough to finish someone like Big Now who love fighting on the ground.

Not being able to finish Nog and having zero ability to do damage are not exactly the same thing though.
People are putting waaaay too much emphasis on him being unable to finish Kongo. Kongo has never had much takedown D, he's always sucked off his back, and he's only been finished one time. So it's not exactly an easy task.
It was the same thing when people were complaining about how long it took Barnett to finish Yvel. The durability of the competition is always a factor.

I agree with you, but when you go to the ground with Nog you better finish REALLY fast or you will get submitted. Not many fighters went to ground with Nog and won

Sure it can happen, but getting subbed by Nog stopped being a guarantee a LONG time ago.

This will most likely be a great fight to bet on when Cain shows up as even money or a favorite in a fight he can pretty much only win by 'nog being too old'.

I'll certainly be very interested to see the lines on this one. Not sure what I'd take but I definitely favour Nog.
I actually think this'll be a great match to help Velasquez evolve as a fighter. I really think he could do with adding some submission skills to his game, particularly a RNC's, Guillotines and the various arm triangle variants (darce, anaconda etc.). There were a bunch of chances for those kind of things against both Rothwell and Kongo but he was clearly more comfortable just keeping control and landing punches. If he's training with some good JuiJitsu guys getting ready for Nog maybe he'll pick up some more skills in that area. Obviously close to the fight you tend to stick more to your strengths and just work things essential to your gameplan but it's a fair way off so he'll probably be doing regular bjj type training until the specific training camp starts.
